I retired from teaching several years ago. I am also retired from operating a bike touring company (Bikefrance:Bridges Tours). In retirement I have volunteered in teaching, learned Phenomenal Touch Massage (Reg TM), taken several road trips and visited several countries.
I kept putting off hosting until ... (there was always some project that needed to be complete). I recently decided that that will never happen; there will always be a project in process. So I have started and love it. I get excited about having travelers come here as much as I get excited about visiting hosts in other places.
I love living in Eugene, and in the Whiteaker. Oregon is not exactly high on any chart of diversity, but I feel this neighborhood is about as good as it gets. We have recently become the hub for eating out in Eugene. From special occasion, high end dining to budget fine food, you can find something with less than a five minute walk.
Since I have retired, I walk quite a bit and don't use the car very much at all any more. My mission statement for tours was 'providing the best tour available, without regard to the price.' I do not have any official mottos - but 'boredom is the only mortal sin' is part of my judgment constellation. I also do not like to spend energy on things I cannot do something about.
I still like to travel and am figuring out how I can balance hosting and traveling. I am pretty sure that it will not be too difficult.
