Marcelo's father was very helpful and always available to make sure we were comfortable. The apartment is spacious and comfortable and in a quite area but still close to the historic centre.
Muchas gracias Adrian!
This house was exactly as described. It was wonderful to stay in and I would defiantly go back. It's so close to the Center of Cuenca. And is a really an amazing place.
We stayed in the 1st floor apartment for 3 nights. The apartment is new, comfortable, clean and completely safe with the alarm system.
It looks just like the photos. The location was good for us - it's an easy 20 min walk to the central area, and we found the neighborhood quiet and safe. The kitchen was fully equipped, so we were able to cook all our meals fairly easily.
The garden at the backside of the house could be a very nice area during sunny mornings or afternoons but is a bit of a waste land now.
During our stay there were no guests at the 2nd floor, that was an advantage for us, like we were by car and there is only space for one car to park.
The Internet didn´t work always, and signal was best in the living room. There is no phone in the apartment, what would be very usefull to call for a pizza for example, but otherwise we were happy. Marcelo was very quick to respond to emails, and his grandfather in Cuenca was very nice and punctually, however he charged me 20 dollar extra for cleaning, I didn´t read about that when we made de arrangement but maybe I missed that part and besides it didn´t bother me.
This second floor apartment appeared exactly as advertised on Airbnb. It was spacious and full of light from windows and skylights. The house provides a nice insight into the way Cuencan families live. I found the house was similar to those of my Ecuadorian family living in Cuenca.
We found the house very dusty on arrival. The bathrooms and kitchen had been cleaned for us, but with a light hand. We immediately went shopping to buy toilet paper, paper towels, scrub sponges, and wipes to use in the house. We spent quite a bit of time wiping and sweeping to make ourselves comfortable in the space.
The house does not have central heating, and can get cold at night. (Again, very representative of Cuenca houses!) All our beds had plenty of warm blankets. There was also a portable electric heater in one bedroom, but we never needed to use it. I recommend that visitors bring house slippers and light sweaters to use in the house, if they tend to feel chilly.
The location was perfect for our family of five. We were a short, pleasant walk away from the Centro, and taxis are easy to catch on Avenida Loja, a half block away. The house is very close to the University of Cuenca. My family warned me to avoid walking home at night, as they have heard of robberies around the Iglesia de San Roque. I felt comfortable walking during the day and early evening, however. To go home at night, we used a taxi. There is great security at the house, with an alarm system and a formidable gate, so we always felt secure inside.
Marcelo, our Airbnb contact, was extremely quick to respond to inquiries by email. Our hosts in Cuenca, Marcelo's family, were also very nice. I hope to stay in their house again on future visits!
We stayed here with two children ages 8 and 10 for 11 days and it was terrific. Marcelo's older aunt and family live upstairs, were very kind and helpful, and gave us a sense of being part of the neighborhood. Sound does travel between upstairs and downstairs, but it was not generally an issue for us, other than a party one night (and perhaps our kids being too noisy for them!). The apartment location was great! In a residential neighborhood that was about a 25 min walk to the new cathedral at the center of town, and a short walk to many businesses on Avenida Remigio Crespo, such as a great yogurt shop, a bread shop (Panaderia Colpan, three blocks downhill). Also on Avenida Guayas there were several small restaurants for grilled meats and hamburgers, a laundry, and a small store. The apartment is also close to a rock climbing gym called C-TRES run by two former competitive climbers who spent a lot of time in the USA. Our kids were able to take some classes and had a great time there. We thought staying in this apartment was a great way to experience daily life more than we would have in a hotel. All amenities were fine (stove, refrigerator, bathroom, etc.). One room had two single beds, the other had a double bed and an extra single bed. There were also extra mattresses in a closet. The apartment has one bathroom within the unit and a second bathroom outside of the unit in the garden area. We only used the one within the apartment but the other was available.
The reservation was canceled the day before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Great place ,, good location ,, best in Cuenca
This apartment in Cuenca was amazing. Very spacious and comfortably slept the 6 of us. Great location, easy access to food, sites and the city center. I would recommend this place to anyone.
We often rent houses while traveling through Ecuador and this was one of the best. Located in a great area to get to and from some of the best places to visit in Cuenca. Marcelo's family lives close by and are very friendly and attentive. Cable and wireless internet are great perks to this property.
