Ricardo was a great host! Incredibly helpful, available, and excited to share his home with us. The ocean view home in Montezuma was comfortable, had everything we needed, and made our trip through the Nicoya peninsula wonderful.
Our stay at Ricardo's place was overall nice. Ricardo was very kindly waiting for us at Montezuma centre, we had a beer and chat and went together to the house. This was a little bit further away from the centre (about 4kms along the seaside and up a hill), it's better if you have your own 4x4.
The house was very nice: with AC in very room/living room and nice "local-style" decor, fully equipped kitchen & dining room and an amazing terrace to enjoy the Pacific ocean views & stars by night!
However, in our stay, there were a few things which we didn't expect:
We stayed in the rooms in the 1st floor (which means the ground
floor): they didn't have much light, as they had only very small
windows close to the ceiling (transom windows) looking mostly towards the garage; overall we felt a bit claustrophobic.
Also, there was a bit too much Costa Rican "nature" sharing the room with us: lots of ants, some spiders and even a grasshopper of some kind, which we had to clear out of our room and bathroom every time before going to sleep. Furthermore the ground floor seemed to be still "under development" since for example there were no mirrors neither in the room or in the bathroom and no soap.
Overall, we would recommend that you stay at Ricardo's if you know you are going to stay at the rooms upstairs and if you are looking for a place outside the busy centre of Montezuma.
And we do hope that, in the meantime, Ricardo takes the opportunity to upgrade the house and especially the ground floor to make them more "guest friendly" :) And that he adds some more pics and clear location of the house in Airbnb.
The place is amazing, very nice and quiet. During the day, the ocean and the mountains will conspire to give you a breathtaking view, and in the night you can lay down on the balcony and enjoy viewing the stars.
The place is a little bit far from Montezuma downtown, but there are several ways to make it there: walking, taxi or having a car. I went to do some running nearby and also made it to downtown by walking, the landscape is just amazing going in any direction so there is a plus on walking (healthier also).
Ricardo was a great host, everything was clean and ready by the moment I arrived. He's very polite and always aware of provide everything you need.
If you're looking for quiet place ideal for relax, this is it. I had a great time!
