John was very helpful when answering questions and even supplied a blender for me when there wasn't one in the house. Sammy is a great driver! I would definitely use his as much as possible to get around the island. We thought about renting a car but the roads are very bad to get to the house so an SUV is needed but Sammy came to our rescue. There are not any restaurants very close to the house to plan to stop at the grocery and fish market in order to cook while you are there. The views from the house are great and there are 2
Private beaches in walking distance.
Beautiful property, amazing view, and wonderful place for anyone who enjoys swimming. The pool and patio were my very favorite part of this home. I am a lap swimmer and the pool was a dream come true. The location was remote which is exactly what I was looking for. It was quite and safe. John's caretaker, Winston checked in with us each day to see if we needed anything.
John is a pleasure to work with. I did not give him much of an arrival notice and he still came through for me without hesitation.
The house has over a 180 degree view of the Atlantic Ocean. Stunning views! There is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful beaches I have ever seen anywhere in the world just a short walk south of the house.
Winston (the house caretaker) is very polite, nice and easygoing which added to the welcoming feeling.
The house is pure awesomeness!! I love this house!! If I ever return to St. Lucia I will ask John to stay here again.
When we arrived in Fort Vieux, Winston met us at the car rental place and took us grocery shopping, note that they don't except AmEx. When we got to the house, we were surprised that the house was at the end of a pot hole-filled dirt road with half-finished houses along the road. The house itself is very nice: large, ACs in almost every room, nice pool and deck, as well as many doors that open and let in a nice breeze. The surroundings of the house were not as beautiful as the pictures as the country is in the midst of a drought so the grass was brown and many plants were dead or dying. Bring/buy toilet paper and power converters for the house. The wifi was spotty as well. As for the surrounding beaches, they were covered in sea weed and trash, so not very inviting.
The roads to the other side of the island are very mountainous and windy. Many people drive fast on these roads which makes it stressful. And at times, the roads can be very narrow on the edge of cliffs with no guardrails, so be aware if you want to travel to Castries.
Winston was very helpful and came to the house daily to check on the grass/garden and the pool.
This house is a dream. The scenery is beautiful and we barely saw another soul the whole time we were there. So glad we skipped the resort and had an adventure. Cannot imagine a more perfect place for a relaxing vacation hope we can return soon!
The only thing we would suggest is if you rent a car you need an SUV for the mountain roads. The road between the airport and house is fine but if you plan on crossing the Island to the Pitons we highly recommend getting the SUV.
We just spent a week at John's house in the South of St Lucia with our 9 month old daughter.
We had a great time: the house is very pleasant, ideally located (for us) in a quiet area, right by the ocean, yet we didn't feel isolated as Vieux Fort is only a short drive away. We took a few day trips to visit the rest of the island (Volcano, North side of the island) and found that we liked the area around the house the best for its authenticity and how peaceful it is. Market day on Saturday in Vieux Fort was fun too.
The pictures are very true to the house: it is modern, spacious, with a great deck and pool. The beds are very comfortable. Winston comes daily to clean the pool and was very pleasant to deal with.
I agree with some of the other reviews that the kitchen is a bit sparsely appointed, but all the basics are there and we were able to cook for ourselves easily.
In short, we loved it, we recommend it and we may consider renting again, as it is such an easy trip from New York.
We had the opportunity to spend nearly a week in this lovely county cottage (6 nights) and LOVED it! John was welcoming and accommodating and the location could not be beat. Two beaches close by with nary a soul to share them with. Plan your meals in advance as the store is a taxi ride away. This location is on a bluff and feels remote but it is so peaceful and relaxing. Winston, the caretaker, picked us up from the airport and took us to the store the first day. After that we depended on Sammy for any trips away from the cottage.
Just spent 10 beautiful days at this lovely house by the sea.The setting couldn't have been nicer and the two beaches were deserted and we had them to ourselves. The sea was at times rough but we had lots of great times when it was calmer and we actually thought it was warmer than the pool. We spent most of our time just looking out across the countryside and sea from the large deck.
You really do need transportation as there are only houses near by. We enjoyed the reef cafe and the old plantation [reservations for supper needed or they don't open] in vieux fort , the fox grove up the coast ,debbies near laramie for meals. Winston who picked us up from the airport and dropped by to clean the pool daily was really pleasant and helpful.
The house was very comfortable and spacious .We did travel around the island but loved this area away from the tourists. The people from St Lucia are very pleasant and we felt very safe.
We hope to return one day!
Sehr tolles Haus mit super Blick über die Berge und aufs Meer. Hier kann man sich wirklich erholen!!
Stayed here on my honeymoon in October 2013 and loved it. The pictures do not do this house justice. The pool is much larger than I expected. The deck is also very spacious. The house is well kept by Winston the caretaker. He was very helpful but also respected our privacy.
House is spacious
The first floor is open with a very nice kitchen
Pool is a nice size and depth
Deck is large and has plenty of outdoor furniture
Outdoor pizza oven is a nice bonus
Large TV in the living room
AC worked great
Beautiful views surround the house
Kitchen had everything we needed
House has Wifi
House has a washing machine
Short drive to the airport (~15 mins)
House is on the east side of the island and the Atlantic Ocean was too rough for swimming most days we were there
15 Min ride to Vieux Fort
There is a TV but no antenna or cable service, we just hooked our computer to the TV
No dryer, only washing machine
Further away from tourist attractions on the North and West of the island
This is a great place if you want to relax enjoy the sun, views and each others company! I would love to got back!
