I love sports and enjoy meeting new people. I'd love to help you discover St Lucia and the beauty of the carribeans.
This house is a dream. The scenery is beautiful and we barely saw another soul the whole time we were there. So glad we skipped the resort and had an adventure. Cannot imagine a more perfect place for a relaxing vacation hope we can return soon!
The only thing we would suggest is if you rent a car you need an SUV for the mountain roads. The road between the airport and house is fine but if you plan on crossing the Island to the Pitons we highly recommend getting the SUV.
We just spent a week at John's house in the South of St Lucia with our 9 month old daughter.
We had a great time: the house is very pleasant, ideally located (for us) in a quiet area, right by the ocean, yet we didn't feel isolated as Vieux Fort is only a short drive away. We took a few day trips to visit the rest of the island (Volcano, North side of the island) and found that we liked the area around the house the best for its authenticity and how peaceful it is. Market day on Saturday in Vieux Fort was fun too.
The pictures are very true to the house: it is modern, spacious, with a great deck and pool. The beds are very comfortable. Winston comes daily to clean the pool and was very pleasant to deal with.
I agree with some of the other reviews that the kitchen is a bit sparsely appointed, but all the basics are there and we were able to cook for ourselves easily.
In short, we loved it, we recommend it and we may consider renting again, as it is such an easy trip from New York.
We had the opportunity to spend nearly a week in this lovely county cottage (6 nights) and LOVED it! John was welcoming and accommodating and the location could not be beat. Two beaches close by with nary a soul to share them with. Plan your meals in advance as the store is a taxi ride away. This location is on a bluff and feels remote but it is so peaceful and relaxing. Winston, the caretaker, picked us up from the airport and took us to the store the first day. After that we depended on Sammy for any trips away from the cottage.
Just spent 10 beautiful days at this lovely house by the sea.The setting couldn't have been nicer and the two beaches were deserted and we had them to ourselves. The sea was at times rough but we had lots of great times when it was calmer and we actually thought it was warmer than the pool. We spent most of our time just looking out across the countryside and sea from the large deck.
You really do need transportation as there are only houses near by. We enjoyed the reef cafe and the old plantation [reservations for supper needed or they don't open] in vieux fort , the fox grove up the coast ,debbies near laramie for meals. Winston who picked us up from the airport and dropped by to clean the pool daily was really pleasant and helpful.
The house was very comfortable and spacious .We did travel around the island but loved this area away from the tourists. The people from St Lucia are very pleasant and we felt very safe.
We hope to return one day!
Sehr tolles Haus mit super Blick über die Berge und aufs Meer. Hier kann man sich wirklich erholen!!
Stayed here on my honeymoon in October 2013 and loved it. The pictures do not do this house justice. The pool is much larger than I expected. The deck is also very spacious. The house is well kept by Winston the caretaker. He was very helpful but also respected our privacy.
House is spacious
The first floor is open with a very nice kitchen
Pool is a nice size and depth
Deck is large and has plenty of outdoor furniture
Outdoor pizza oven is a nice bonus
Large TV in the living room
AC worked great
Beautiful views surround the house
Kitchen had everything we needed
House has Wifi
House has a washing machine
Short drive to the airport (~15 mins)
House is on the east side of the island and the Atlantic Ocean was too rough for swimming most days we were there
15 Min ride to Vieux Fort
There is a TV but no antenna or cable service, we just hooked our computer to the TV
No dryer, only washing machine
Further away from tourist attractions on the North and West of the island
This is a great place if you want to relax enjoy the sun, views and each others company! I would love to got back!
Beautiful accommodations. Spacious rooms and all amenities were as described. The owner was very attentive and made the process very smooth and easy. Would highly recommend this place to anyone.
This house is PERFECT!! My Husband and I spent our honeymoon here and we couldn't be happier. The people at the airport were friendly and helpful. We were met at the airport by Winston, the caretaker. He is wonderful, kind, and funny. He stopped by at least once a day to make sure we had everything that we needed. The home is very beautiful and clean. We had everything we needed for the week. We spent a very quiet week in the house, it was just the peaceful vacation that we wanted. We visited the other side of the island and Winston arranged for us to be picked up by Samuel, our personal cab driver for the day. He took us to the Ladera Resort to have lunch between the Pitons, it was the most Amazing view I've ever seen. Then we spent a few hours at Jalousie beach. The hosts were very kind and were available whenever we needed them. I can't say enough good things about John's family and their lovely home. Our honeymoon was more perfect than we could have imagined. Best week ever...
We had a great time at the Yellow House and would recommend it.
Winston, the caretaker, picked us up at the airport and took us to the grocery and fish market. It's about 6 miles from the airport to the house. If you've never been to St Lucia, do pay attention to the location - this house is in the south west of the island. It was perfect for us and exactly what we were looking for, on the opposite end of the island from the resorts (definite plus!). As such, a lot of the restaurants you'll read about online are a trek away. We rented a car and explored the north (castries/vigies/coal pot) & west (pitons/sugar beach/dasheene) on daytrips - it's not a huge island so the Helene area was a perfect base. And indeed, sometimes it's hard to pull yourself away from the pool. The beaches a short walk away.
The kitchen was very functional with a nice stove and dishwasher. The bottled water they provided was also very welcome. We cooked a lot while we were there - purportedly, Vieux Fort has the largest fish market on the island. And then there was Tady's. Impossible to find online but right around the corner from Helene, near La Cour Ville, there's a tiny local seafood restaurant that we enjoyed so much we went back twice.
All in all, a wonderful house and a wonderful trip.
My wife and I visited St. Lucia mid-October and stayed at John's place. Like every other review the pictures do not do it justice. The house is very modern and has pretty much everything you need. A microwave would of been nice but wasn't a huge deal. The pool was cleaned daily by Winston the caretaker and the view from it was simply astonishing.
Winston was very helpful with everything! From giving us rides to Vieux-Fort to get groceries or go to the bank, he was always around to help out!
The house is secluded and not easy to find for the average taxi driver. Winston informed us to give the taxi drivers his number so that he can give them exact directions, which we did and had no problems with that afterwards.
Be aware that the house is on the opposite side of the island where all of the other hotel chains and main entertainment can be found. If you plan to venture out, be prepared to either hire a taxi or tour company to visit these places. It’s about 1hr45min to Rodney Bay and 1hr30 to Soufriere where you can see the Pitons.
In the pictures two beaches can be seen, one is about a 5min walk down a path. It’s not safe to swim or really lay on it. A lot of drift wood and other sea debris can be found there. We never made it out to the other beach but apparently it is safe to swim.
We have zero complaints about the house and everything that came with it, it’s just the location of the house that we weren't prepared for as much as we would of liked to be.
We would definitely recommend this location to family, friends or other couples for a honeymoon like we did. We never felt unsafe and fully enjoyed our time in St. Lucia and at this house.
