Very communicative and responsible host! Helped us and was patient with all our questions. The flat is perfect for a few days stay and we were comfortable. The lock on the bedroom door didn't work, and the light in the building stairwell was out which made it unsafe to come and go, especially at night without a flashlight, but hopefully that gets fixed. Thanks for everything otherwise, Istanbul is an amazing city!
Kemal's room is good value for the money. You get to live in a non-touristic area and see how life in Istanbul looks. In 25 to 30min you get to Taksim square by public transport which to me is not as close as I may have expected but a time during which you are entertained by the sights and it is worth spending that. As by the timing we choose (Kemal was abroad for most of the time which we knew in advance) I did not talk to him for more than a few sentences and unfortunately missed out on that part.
Place was clean and nice, close to taksim square,. And near to the place you can find restaurant , bakeries, gas station, so is really value for you money.
I stayed here for a month. The room was comfortable and clean and Kemal and Leila were very helpful. The location is great. Kurtulus is an authentic and safe neighborhood about a 15 minute walk from Taxim with good bus links. Renting the room gives you access to a small kitchenette with a microwave, kettle and a big fridge so you can easily make your own meals and sit on the balcony to eat them. There is a Carrefour Express and many smaller shops near to the apartment so shopping is convenient. All in all it was a very good experience with the added bonus of an in house masseuse who was very professional and effective. Rating = Recommend.
Kemal was well organised and he answered every question in a minute. The room was comfortable and clean. There was a toilet and shower for us alone.
The only thing that would be a problem, is that the flat is somehow very far from the interesting sites, not the distance, when you look at the map. but the real distance consist of many mountains and not very friendly to walkers. drivers are not very kind to them...
In the end it was an interesting trip and the flat gave us the oppurtunity to get involved to the not touristic areas.
we enjoyed the almost friendly (not english speaking) owners of the small shops at every corner, where you could buy the basic foodstuff.
Well, the places grows on you. The house is an part of Taksim where one needs to take a bus or taxi to get to. its a bit uphill and not easy to walk with or without your backpacks. 70ke or 70ky takes you there and the service in the day is quiet frequent from Taksim square.
To go to the old part of town there are few options the bus or share a taxi or bus and then change to tram from kabatus.
Kemal is a good host and goes out of his way to help his guest.
The room itself a simple enough and the bathroom quiet decent size than most hotel or hostel. You won't find tourist in the area.
I'm sure i'll go back to stay there and party in istiklal street and hang around taksim square.
Kemal was a wonderful host. He was very helpful and easily reachable even when he's not around.
A little tip to future guests: Don't take a cab there, just follow Kemal's instructions.
Thank you for everything!
Room was very good. Could be hot in summer, but the fan was great. Excellent shower. Good to have a full size fridge and coffee making facilities between the rooms. Very easy to get around once Kemil explains the bus numbers, but be aware that the time to eminonu varies from 40 minutes to 2.5 hours depending on traffic. Walking distance to Taksim Square. Real "village" atmosphere. Don't miss the food at Olympia near the bus stop. They don't speak much english and the menu is in turkish, but there are pictures you can point to. The food is cooked over charcoal and the salad is so fresh. It is worth staying here just for the food. Kemil is very pleasant and extremely helpful host with excellent english.
Kemal, un hombre muy particular e inteligente, respetuoso y atento.
me encantara tenerlo de nuevo en mi casa
Kemal was a wonderful guest. He was friendly and easy to relate to. very flexible and adventurous. we would be very happy to host him again in future.
Kemal was very friendly! He left the place clean, he had collected the garbage he had in plastic bag ready to throw away and everything was perfect. He was the first person to stay at my place and I wish everybody else would be like him!
I can't wait to go visit him in Istambul. I recommend him 100%
