Honestly, I will tell you that I almost didn't get to host Shirley. She had only two reviews before contacting us and one of them was quite negative about her personality and the state she had left the property. Lucky for me that I decided to ask Shirley for her side of the story. She convinced me that hosting her would not be any kind of problem. As a result, we very much enjoyed her youth and energy during her short stay. She was a star of our first dinner party, singing karaoke and cracking jokes. She and her boyfriend were respectful of our property. The only communication snafu I am aware of is this: I expressly, in writing, told her that there was no air conditioning in the rooms and she assured me in writing that they didn't care about that because they didn't like AC anyway. Then somehow, I'm not sure why, our hostess turned on the AC in the owner's music studio and air conditioned the entire house with it so that they could have air conditioning in their downstairs rooms. I can only speculate that this might be as a result of a cultural difference, between the forward and assertive young Chinese guest, and the quiet and reticent Okinawan hostess. I like both kinds of people and am grateful to the hostess and the guest for their acts of kindness towards each other. As I understand it, we owe the selection of our rural private home over a fine hotel in Naha to the fact that the hotels were full with Obon festival participants. If so, thank you Shirley for your flexibility in adapting to our traditional guest room style.
Thank you Rj.
It was a pleasure to meet you and spent some nice time together.
Hope to see you in China one day!
Shirley had only complaints about the apartment since she arrived (including "too expensive" coming from a friend of hers when we did the check-in after a considerable reduction for a monthly stay!).
I mean, the apartment is what you see in the pictures apart from the bed, which has been changed indeed because the other one was broken by guests... I was coming back from holidays the day she arrived, the cleaning (only the fridge was dirty) was taken care of as soon as she got to the place.
I also gave her the wi-fi password several times by telephone, and had to come over to get her online myself when the code was exactly the same.
Last but not least, Shirley stayed there for one month. When she checked out the apartment it looked like it hadn't been cleaned or hoovered in a month... hope she's not like that in her own house.
Definitely not a great experience!
Shirley, but her original name is Xue, is a really nice person, that I had a great pelasure to host: she was learning alone italian, and I appretiated a lot the effort and passion that she made to arrive to have also a very good italian pronunciation. She is a person that love to pass some time at home, cooking , and organizing her spaces ...She is open to have communication, and to share a coffee together. Very interested in italian culture.
