From the moment we arrived, we loved Menia's Cave House. Yaanis looked after us and made us feel very comfortable, he catered to our every need. From reserving tables at top restaurants to driving us around. We felt as if we were 'home away from home'. This quiet little place is tucked away on the edge of the cliffs, with spectacular views across the caldera. Unfortunately the terrace doesn't have a sunset view, but as you are in the heart of Oia it didn't matter at all. The house is conveniently located near restaurants and bars, and around 20minutes to Fira. I will be recommending this place to all my friends and family! A must if you are staying in Oia.
Our "villa" was just prefect!!!! Over the top, Better than we thought!!!! The description on airbnb is exactly the way it looks etc.
After flying all night from New York and then a couple hour connection in Athens we were all tired, but a driver was waiting for us when we landed. Then Lola met us at the Villa and told us everything we needed to know. She also showed us where to eat and go in Pyrgos. We hope to return soon.
My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon and had a great experience. The porch has an amazing view of the caldera, and the house is right in the middle of Oia. Everything you'd want in terms of restaurants and shops is right around you. The only negatives for us were that we couldn't get the Jacuzzi to work. We never could get enough hot water to fill up the tub. Also, it would have been great to have enough clean bath towels to get through the week. It may not be a bad idea to bring your own. Other than that awesome place!
If we were allowed just one word to describe the old winery, then it has to be "exceptionally wonderful". Yes, that is two words. And it has to be, because a single word just doesn't do this place justice.
Sotiris and his assistant Lolla were very caring and generous hosts! Lolla was kind-hearted and made sure we received everything we asked for. She managed to keep the whole place clean and neat without us ever really noticing doing work around the house.
We spent such a calm and relaxing time at Pyrgos old winery that we are sure we will come again some time.
We had a wonderful time despite the rainy weather. The view from the terrace was gorgeous. Yannis was very helpful and the place was easy to find. The beds were super comfortable but the sheets and quilts were way too small for the beds. The only negative was a complete lack of drawers, closets, wardrobes to put clothes, etc. There were no hooks in the bathrrom for towels so we draped htem everywhere in the bathroom. So we lived out of our suitcases the entire week. I don't like clutter so it was a bit of an eyesore. The bathroom is a dream. The shower was wonderful. The location was perfect.
Perfect in every way - this is 5* hotel quality of service and facilities. Sotoris was helpful in helping us plan (and change!) our booking. When we arrived in Pyrgos, Lolla met us and she looked after us during our stay, changing sheets and towels every other day and making sure the pool was heated for the kids. We were travelling with 3 year old twins and the place is perfect for a family. The courtyard is a great place to run around and play and the bathroom is stunning. The building is one of my favourite airbnb stays - top design touches. Pyrgos is a great location for exploring Santorini, a little more quiet and cute than some of the more famous towns, but near everywhere by car. Plus Selene in Pyrgos offers a fine dining experience as good as anything in London.
Our Pyrgos old winery villa stay was spectacular. Sotiris was prompt, professional and friendly in his communications prior to and during the stay. He was kind enough to arrange an airport shuttle for a great price of 15 euros. We were met by a sweet woman named Lolla who helped us with our luggage for the short walk up some charming paths to get to the home. The home is beautiful! Classic santorini charm; beautiful private courtyard with trees, flowers, a jacuzzi tub, loft, sun chairs, and clothes lines. The home is beyond words. Lots of natural light; smooth original finishes with original stone walls; one private bedroom in the front; spacious living room with two comfy couches, a TV, stereo and DVD player; beautiful farm style family dining table with chairs; a full kitchen stocked with all the bottled water (can't drink tap water in santorini) you need chilled along with two complimentary small bottles of santorini white wine, silverware, espresso machine with several servings, dishes, and cookware; there is a nook with a second Queen bed and dresser (one of the most comfortable, fluffy beds I've ever slept in!); and lastly a surreal cave shower with rain shower head, large vanity space and two glass windows on the floor giving you a glimpse into the old winery space the villa was built on. The home is situated in charming Pyrgos. From high ground it is possible to see the beautiful coast, and the town square is small but charming. There is a central bus stop, a few restaurants (would HIGHLY recommend Cava Alta for spectacular Mediterranean fusion cuisine and the best Sangria we have ever had!), coffee shops, markets, pharmacy and bakery. It is a 10 minute drive by bus or car (15-20 min by ATV) to the bustling, touristy Thira/Fira where there are tons of souvenir shops, car, moto and ATV rental places, travel agencies for tours, and restaurants. I would recommend renting a car or ATV for greater autonomy to explore, as the bus schedules are difficult to decipher and aren't always prompt, and taxis don't routinely come to the square. Oia is a must see for its picturesque cliffs, shops and charm, but I would recommend accessing it by car as the roads from Pyrgos to Oia are narrow and cliff side. It was really nice to be able to retreat from the bustling touristy areas to quiet, charming Pyrgos. I would recommend this place without reservation to anyone!
this house is gorgeous! the location is also fantastic -- we really appreciated staying in the quieter pyrgos which is centrally located and out of the tourist frenzy of oia and fira. the views from the roof are divine. the host was very responsive to inquiries both before and during our stay.
you MUST try the restaurant just a few steps away down the adorable winding paths -- CAVA ALTA -- probably my favorite meals in greece!!
be ready for a bit of a climb to the house with your luggage....
my only disappointment was the hot tub: it was never hot! we were told it gets to 40 degrees and the house attendant confirmed it was heated all the way up, but even after a workout in the hot sun in the middle of the day it felt too cold to get in. also FYI, hard to tell from the pictures but the hot tub deck is on the side of the house and separate from the other decks and views.
We stayed 4 nights in Menia's Cave House and we had the most magical time. Yannis organised a taxi for us from the airport and greeted us upon our arrival in Oia, kindly carried our suitcases up and down the stairs, and showed us round the flat. He was also available for any of our questions throughout the stay, and helped organised rentals, restaurants etc. fantastic service!
Like most places in Oia, there are a number of stairs et go up and down to access the flat - tiring at first but you get used it after the first few times!
The flat was perfectly clean and exactly like the photos (extra points for a very comfortable bed). Someone came every day once we were gone to tidy and make the bed. It was like staying in a hotel but with more privacy and freedom.
And nothing can beat waking up to that view and having breakfast on the terrace!
As far as the location is concerned, we loved staying in Oia because it's a little more quiet. And while the terrace doesn't face the sunset, it means the flat has a certain amount of privacy you do not get on the other side of Oia, and you can still get to the sunset view in minutes.
A bottle of wine was waiting for us upon arrival, a lovely touch.
Overall, as you can tell, we loved it!
We had an awesome time in Oiya, staying in Sotiris's amazing cave house. The house was exactly as pictured- the view was stunning, and the location perfect. A short walk up the steps and we were on the main street for shopping and restaurants. Yannis the young man who met us and looked after us was amazing! He arranged a ferry pickup, and and checked in on us regularly. He made reservations for us- even drove us to a travel agent and helped us talk to the agent.
the shower was amazing!
You can't go wrong with Menia's cave house, if you are looking for an exceptional Santorini experience. Thanks Sotiris!
