Response from Lance:
I am shocked by the untruths and exaggerations in this review. The apartment is not new, the building was built in 1848 (replacing the residence where Alexander Hamilton died), and sits on a cobblestone street - it's a historic brownstone in the West Village. All prewar apartments in NYC have steam heat, which is centrally controlled in the building. The apartment is professionally cleaned prior to every guest arriving - mopped, dusted, vacuumed, bedding/towels washed, bathroom scrubbed, etc...(I have been using the same cleaner with no problems for 6 years.) Yes, my things are there, this is AirBNB, I do not empty the apartment of my personal belongings. That said, there is 1/2 a wardrobe available for guests to use for their items and, the apartment is, by Manhattan standards, quite spacious. I have never had an issue with the shower not draining, my only guess as to why the renter had a problem here is that she did not know how to work the drain and did not ask me. The renter's complaints about the kitchen and the insects/pests are frankly unbelievable to me and were perhaps fabricated to support her request for a refund. In fact, as I look around my apartment, as I read the reviews other guests have left and think about the positive feedback I have received from them both online and in-person, it seems to me that the bulk of this review was fabricated in an attempt to get a refund.
