It was very relaxing staying at Steve's. He's a baker, and fresh bread was always at hand. There is a beautiful shady "lanai" (Hawaiian for "veranda") that looks out over the trees and a bit of ocean. It was lovely to drink our coffee on it in the morning, listening to the breeze through the trees and the crowing of the roosters nearby.
Although there are little breakfast places nearby, a farmer's market very nearby (twice a week?), and a supermarket down the street, this area shuts down at 5pm, if not sooner. Many of the lunch places close at 3, or even 1:30. Don't plan on having dinner out unless you research where! We liked Annie's Burgers & Beer.
It's also rather difficult to find Steve's - Hawaii doesn't seem to like (website hidden) Maps, and he lives on an unmarked alcove off Kinue Drive. He was very responsive to our calls, though, and stood outside until we arrived.
All in all, a very nice stay. Thanks, Steve!
we spent a few days at Steve's place and we really liked it a lot. The house is big and Steve is a nice host. He gave us good tips what to do around Captain Cook. WE enjoyed a lot the marked, were we could get his bread, which was the yummiest of our trip in Hawaii.
Captain Cook is a good point for visiting the east coast of Big Island.
Thanks a lot Steve!!!! And go on baking REAL bread!!!!
Beatiful house, good location for exploring the coast nearby Captain Cook, you can reach on foot a supermarket & restaurant. Please do not use gps to reach the place, follow Steve's instruction, the house is just behind the Fire Station of Captain Cook
Steve is a wonderful guest. I hope that he returns. He is welcome back any time. Len
Steve was a wonderful guest and we welcome him back again.
Steve was a great guest, and I was excited to find out he was also an artisan bread maker who would be bringing his wares with him to a market nearby. He's a delightful person, and I would not hesitate recommending him as a guest, (or baker!) to anyone.
