I currently live in NYC. I work as a consultant for record labels doing radio promotions and also have second job as a flight attendant
It was a lovely stay, and ideal if you have a dog as we do. Diana was very flexible with checking in and out, and although Shirley doesn't have a lot of amenities on its own, you are a fairly short drive to other towns that do. Having a washer and drier on site was also a big plus after going to the beach. We would go back again.
Great small cozy house. Was perfect for me and three other friends to get away from the city and just kick back. She's within walking distance from the beach, the bikes are great. Wasn't to hard to get in and out of the apartment, or find it. She gave us some great recommendations, Ofrio's was excellent, as well as this restaurant Porters. Everyone in the town was very nice. Overall great experience.
Me and my boyfriend stayed for 6 nights in Dianas small house. It had all you needed for a week near the beach. Diana was always very quick to answer our questions and was very helpful. As we arrived when she was not there, she left the key for us! It was very uncomplicated. We arrived by train and were very glad about the two bicycles in the shed we could use. So we could go to the beach with them and buy our groceries.
I would definitely recommend the place for a quite time at the beach!
Fairly basic but quite comfortable and very well equipped Cottage. Very convenient to visit ocean beach on Fire Island. We only visited beach for short periods so preferred to walk across bridge rather than pay $15 parking fee. Two excellent bikes also convenient. Very well located as a base for visiting the Hamptons.
We had a great meal at Onorfrio's in Mastic Beach & would strongly recommend this family owned Italian restaurant.
Dealing with Diana was easy, but we had no problems and never actually met her.
We had a great stay at Diana's place. The place was clean and kitchen was well stocked. We didn't have a car (though I recommend having one for any kind of suburban getaway in LI), so we used the bikes. (bring your own helmets and locks) One bike was a mountain bike, short enough for me ( I am 5'4") and the other a larger, recreational bike (good for 5'7" or taller). Bikes were in good condition, we pumped the tires with the pump in the shed and were ready to roll. Biking to the beach was easy, about 20 min if there is lots of wind. The Wi-Fi and cable TV worked great, shower and bathroom are small but perfectly clean and functional. The garden in the back is nice, with a table and chairs under a little tree. Neighborhood was nice and quiet at night. All in all, a great place to escape the city for a few days.
We liked it to stay as a family in Dianas house. Everything was prepared for us. The endless Firebeach is wonderful and we liked it very much. We made a trip to NY. We drove by car until Freeport and took the LIRR to Penn Station (all together two hours).
Thanks a lot!
My teenage son and I spent a month in this delightful little house, and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay! The house is clean, and well-appointed. It was perfect for our needs, and had nice amenities. The washer/dryer and fitness equipment in particular were nice touches, as were the bicycles! The back yard and front porch are very quiet, comfortable places to sit and read, or eat, and our dog loved having the yard! The neighbors on both sides were very kind and friendly. Our thoughtful hostess had stocked the freezer and pantry with all the basics and more to get us started. The bay is just a short walk away, with swimming area and playground, and then the ocean beach (which was beautiful!) just a short drive or bike ride away. Diana was always easily accessible by text message, email, or phone, and was very helpful and friendly. The surrounding area had so much to do, and we really enjoyed exploring the area. It's very family friendly, and a great place to stroll with the dog, ride a bike, or take a longer drive. Thank you, Diana! I couldn't have asked for a better introduction to Long Island! We will definitely book again!
Diana's cottage was darling. The location was great! We took the train from the city to the LIRR station in Shirley and took a taxi to the house. Diana wasn't there but she left a key for us which worked out great. Since we didn't have a car our options for eating were limited. We decide to walk to the market up the street and buy some groceries. The kitchen was very well stocked and we ate for two and a half days for under $40. The sofa and bed were very comfortable and there was direct tv. The house was a twenty minute walk to Fire Island State beach. There were bikes in the shed for our use but we chose to walk. The beach was an endless pristine strip of sand. We had a very relaxing couple of days and the location was perfect. I would definitely recommend staying there.
Diana was very flexible and understanding when we needed to cut our trip short. She was very responsive and answered all of my questions.
We live in the city and have two dogs, so this was a good getaway house for all of us! We loved the fenced-in yard and the house had everything we needed at a good price.
