I am a safari outfitter enjoying life in the Greater Kruger Park area.
Mafigeni is a beautiful lodge. The pictures cannot capture the spectacular views, tasteful accomodation and lovely meals. I found the atmosphere relaxed yet engaging. I was there at a quiet time of year so I felt like I had the whole place to myself, yet the staff were very attentive to my needs. There is a range of activities that you can be invloved in, but there is plenty of privacy in which to unwind and rejeuvenate. There are many activities in the surrounding area that the staff told me about, in order to mix up my trip.
Mafigeni safari Lodge has its own game reserve grounds where you can also go on a bush walk, a good and different experience from game drives, as you get to know plants and trees and a better understanding of the area. The game drive was disappointing - did not get to see ANY animals except for impalas and a warthog. However the South African summer this year seems to be too wet - so even no animals at the waterholes, as there is water everywhere... The lodge itself has several chalets with lots of space in between, so you have privacy, but the interior needs some redecorating and grading up, not more than a 3-star-hotel. The main house is wonderful, huge with thatched roof, great lunch and dinner. And the pool is marvellous, also the breakfast that is served in the poolhouse, very convenient.
