I am a college professor (political science, gender studies, international studies). I love hiking/trail running, hanging out in coffee shops, walking around big cities just soaking up the vibe. I tend to be a seat of the pants traveler - except for lining up a place to stay ahead of time. Then, I like to play it by ear, get tips from locals. Never been much of a guidebook person.
I have one daughter (b. 2000) who often travels with me. She's pretty well-traveled for a 12-year old and let's face it: technology keeps kids pretty happy anywhere these days. Sigh. She does still read at least.
