Lovely, welcoming hosts, a big room in a great location. The street is quiet at night. The shower is hot and powerful. The bed is comfy. They helped with good directions to get around Paris too.
The room actually has it's own door onto the public hallway, which is great for your independence. It is connected to the rest of the house by a spiral staircase, so there is no door internally to the rest of the apartment. This was no problem, apart from the CAT. Actually, in fairness they blocked it so the cat could not get up, but if partner had been with me it would have been really bad because of allergies. Owners should always state when they have their own pets!
Having to use what is in effect a public toilet is a little strange and they could do more to clean that, but not the end of the world.
Overall I'd recommend it.
Valery and Ariane are just the most kind and welcoming people you will ever meet; they really went above and beyond to help us settle in and even chase down a taxi for us to get to the airport! (Thank you again!)
The apartment is to die for! The location is spectacular and the ambiance of the living room really gives you the Parisian experience. They enviable cd collection provided and good wine and cheeses bought from around the corner meant we spent many nights in rather than going out because we just loved it there so much. French bakeries and lovely shops are literally across the road and the breathtaking Luxembourg gardens a 30 sec walk. Great brasseries all a block or so away and buses and train stations all nearby. Everything was just perfect; we had an absolute ball. Hopefully we can come back again soon! Thank you Valery and Ariane x
It is a wonderful little room on the top floor of a 1700s era apartment house practically across the street from the Jardins Luxembourg. What a marvelous location! You are equidistant from the Montparnasse, St. Germain, St. Michel, Odėon, the Latin Quarter... You are in all those neighborhoods! Easily accessible to 'le tout Paris' by foot -- and by public transportation. The comfortable little room has two windows opening onto a balcony from which one can see the sweet street below and lovely, charming, roofs.
The room has a sink & shower; you must share the wc (outside the door) with a young man across the hall. For me, this was absolutely no problem. One more nice touch: it really is the 4th floor!!! Due to European "rez dé chaussée" (ground floor not 1st floor), I'd thought it might be the 5th; it wasn't!
The room is attached by stairs & a curtain to the large apartment below (probably was once a maid's room) & the kitchen is down there; this is in your hosts', Ariane & Valéry's, apartment. Physically, kitchen access is not difficult; it's beneath the stairs, but in another way, it really is. I liked Ariane & Valéry very much. They are intelligent, artistic, people, both film-makers. They are eager hosts. If you make a suggestion, they follow through.
There is one delicate aspect, which you should know: they work from home. Happily, their work is quiet. It is "thinking" work. Because they are there, thinking, much of the time, I felt concern about interrupting them. Asking for trash bags, toilet paper, a sponge, to change a light bulb, well, this feels uncomfortable when both hosts are busy doing culturally important work -- from home! But they are happy to help. They are.
Not that they had problems with my petty needs. To the contrary, when I had internet access problems; they upgraded their wifi system. Little changed (AT&T at fault) but do note: they upgraded their system!
This same delicacy extends to using their kitchen. Not wishing to interrupt their lives or knowing whether I was, I kept my food out on the balcony. You really aren't renting the kitchen. Keep food in the fridge, fine. But the kitchen is not part of the rental. I didn't cook, but if I had, I'd have finished and brought my food upstairs. At the price you get this perfect place, it would be a mistake to expect full use of the kitchen. The way it is, your life is really private. I was happy.
These are gracious people. I was there 2 full weeks, mostly at night. They invited me to dinner several times (good food, good conversation!) and my last night we went out together and had a great time.
I would come back. I don't think one could come closer to having one's own place. I highly recommend this beautiful room in Paris. Great for one person or for a couple.
Be it inside this roomy architect house and its superb layout or outside, 10 minutes from the cliffs, bordering fields, quiet and green, we enjoyed our stay there very much. On top of that, we got warmly welcomed by our host.. highly recommended !
