I've got a wife and 3 kids. We are friendly and like to be outdoors and know Kansas City pretty well. We are avid hikers, explorers, bikers. We love to grill and be outside.
Chris is a great host! He is very responsive in all sorts of communication virtually and in real life. Everything that was written about the place is correct.
Expect that you're living in a person's basement, which means that you will hear footsteps. The family was very courteous about waking up times though.
The space is big and everything you need is there. The bathroom was like a maze on how it was set up. It's functional, but don't expect a hotel.
All in all, we were grateful for the space and the price that we paid for. Chris and his family is very welcoming and I would be hosted by them any day.
Very comfortable and cozy. We enjoyed our stay.
Great place! Chris is the perfect host. I highly recommend it.
The neighborhood is really great and Chris should probably tell you more about it. The houses are big, the neighbors are nice, they have dogs and kids. It's even quite hilly, for Kansas. If you're into walking, like me, you're in the right place, super safe.
There is a nice little mall a little over a mile away with a Trader Joe's, an AMC movie theater that has a bar, Target, several other stores, and a Starbucks open 5:30am to 9:30pm. I walk there but most would probably prefer to drive.
This is my new home in KC, so I hope it does not become too popular.
I stayed here one night. Chris was a great host. Any time I need to stay in KC for work, this is where I will go.
The basement was perfect for what I needed (more actually).
Now, it's not a room at the Hilton, but you aren't paying what it would cost either. There are a few things in storage there. However it IS cozy and comfortable, quiet, clean, and they have everything you could need available to you, and more. There's wifi, a computer, clean sheets, blankets, and towels, plenty of wood for fireplace, full kitchen, washer/dryer, private bedroom w heater, extra futon and couch, even disinfecting wipes in the bathroom and everything else you might need in there. You could honestly show up with just the clothes on your back and have everything you need. Other reviews I read stated that Chris may even take you to get groceries.
I fully recommend this place to stay, but I hope not toooo many people find it ;) I don't want to find it occupied when I need it, lol.
Entry is through the garage which left me feeling a little intrusive when opening the garage door, but that's just me.
Ask to meet the dog that stays out back if you plan to smoke, and there are children upstairs so know that as well. They're mindful of you, be mindful of them.
I had a great time at the Chris Prewitt household. I loved the wood stove and the Van Gough paintings. The bed was really comfortable.
The only problem was finding the house and that was because I was using a GPS that didn't have (website hidden) maps in it, lol. Great time!
Everything went good. I went jogging a few times to a nearby trail/stream. Christ was nice enough to let me tag along on several grocery shopping expeditions as well.
Everything went good. Chris was very polite and took care of everything, including letting me tag along on a few rides to the supermarket. I got a lot of work done consulting in the area at a good price for housing.
Chris and his wife were great. I needed to arrive late and they happily obliged. Plenty of space for one person and they allowed me to use their refrigerator in the basement.
Our favorite stay!! This is a fun and pleasant couple and family. If you want them to leave you alone, they will... If you want to hang out with them and want playmates for your kids, that's cool with them!
They invited us up to the deck after the kids were asleep and we enjoyed some of Chris's home brewed beer and easy conversation!
Also the space we were given was amazing! An entire downstairs area! Tons of room!
This is perfect for a family or a group of people...
If you are looking for a place of complete silence and solitude, go check into a hotel! They do have kids and they are upstairs (above you). But it's super easy to sleep in cuz it stays nice and dark and the bed is comfy!
We did not have the time to interact with Chris and his family except when we first arrived but Chris was super nice and the basement apartment was very nice.
