Al and Nok were very accommodating. Although the location was a bit further away for two backpack travelers without a car, it is still a lovely place to visit. The Rice House is a beautiful construction and we enjoyed preparing our breakfast in the Thai kitchen. Thank you for your hospitality.
It's a warm and beautifully-designed house full of innocence. It's the first time I have experienced Airbnb and we were very lucky that the day we stayed here was Thailand's Family Day! Isn't that wonderful? Ali and his beautiful wife welcomed us thoughtfully, and their dogs were sooooo docile and lovely! Only one thing I want to mention to people interested is that the house is to the northwest of the old town, a little far away, so please arrange your journey beforehand and tell Ali.
We all like it, rice barn is like a little farm, everything is awesome!!!
Alastair and Nok's Rice Barn was a pure sanctuary for my wife and I during our stay in Chiang Mai. Note that the house IS not in Chiang Mai, but Hang Dong, and it takes about 30 minutes by motorbike to get to the Old City. That said, if you don't mind motorbiking (in which case I highly recommend renting from Alastair--his bikes are in good condition and well maintained), you would be hard pressed to find a more tranquil and relaxing home near Chiang Mai.
We were so comfortable and felt well taken care of by Al and Nok. The Rice Barn is very unique and you can wake up to the sound of birds, rather than city noises. There are even ducks and dogs are also there to keep you company in the huge grounds that are full of lounging areas.
It's a lovely place very quite cozy and comfortable.Ali and Nok are friendly and provide everything they (website hidden) is a little far away from the city but convenient to anywhere by motorbike or taxi.We love it so much.
Such nice guys. Our flight was delayed.Alastair was waiting for us nearly for three hours without sleeping. Thanks to Al and Nok we have a wonderful time in Chiangmai. Thanks so much.
I can just say that it was a wonderful experience from the start. Al organized a convenient transfer from the airport for us. The driver spoke very good English and stopped at the local market for us to buy the food (we cook a lot normally). The place itself was really ideal and totally to my liking: the accommodation was in a quiet village, in a beautiful garden. A lot of birds, dogs, parrots, geese. We used the kitchen which had everything necessary. Al lets his guests use some food in the kitchen just for donation. I liked the place tremendously. Everything was thought over and convenient. The room was spacious and corresponded to what was in the pictures. I loved the bed, for me it was firm enough and big. Sleeping there was fantastic. It was like being home. Now I moved to the city and I feel the difference in quality of sleep. In general I was looking forward to coming back to the guest house in the evenings after sightseeing in the city. There is very good atmosphere there with Al, Nok and the wonderful other guests. We had interesting conversations and special good time. Even my boyfriend who is not a fan of countryside hotels was impressed. Al and Nok were super hospitable, they advised, helped us find the information, solved our little issues. The only thing which we knew beforehand is that of course one needs a bike or a car to reach the city. Al can rent bikes. Take the driver's license with you, we kept it in the room and were fined on the road.
I've been longing for a getaway from the crowd and noise for a long time. Dream came true at Rice Barn and Rooms. Not sure if it's protected by tree shadows but our room stays cool most of the time, AC is only needed in the afternoon when it gets very hot outside. The whole place is simply lovely and gorgeous. Same for our hosts Al and Nok! Everyday we woke up naturally in bird songs and start out fresh in the country side. You'll need a motor bike to get around to Cafes, restaurants and markets, which is available for rent on site. Also, we were both working remotely during our stay and highly dependent on internet speed. And the connection turned out to be superb thanks to the recent upgrade of network service. I'm sure we'll revisit some time.
The Rice Barn and Rooms was homey, and a great place to relax outside the main area of Chiang Mai. Alaistar was a very welcoming and helpful host, willing to help however he could. I highly recommend a stay here while in Chiang Mai.
