Eildon was a lovely, welcoming host, and her house is wonderful. Surrounded by the Cheviot Hills, it's a fabulous location, perfect as a base for long walks.
When you get back there's a cosy sitting room for you to relax and eat in - and you will want to eat. Eildon is a wonderful cook, and the fact that there aren't any places to eat that close is an excuse to sample her supper. It's not cheap, but it was so good. Breakfast, too, was a feast - you won't need lunch afterwards.
The bedroom was large and warm and comfy.
Lovely place, lovely people! Eildon and Martin are kind and attentive hosts who pampered me with a wonderful log fire and delicious carrot cake on my return at the end of every day, followed by a hearty home-cooked supper. They grow their own vegetables - I enjoyed fantastically tasty leeks and beetroot from their garden and am looking forward to discovering what other vegetables they produce at other times of year. Set in stunning Northumbrian hills, their house is very comfortable and the valley they are in is blissfully quiet. Highly recommended if you need a beautiful and peaceful retreat from city life. I'm already plotting my next trip...
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Eildon and her husband and daughter. Wonderful hospitality which made us feel very relaxed and at home. We'll definitely be back for another visit!
Staying with Eildon was a joy. The house is stunning. It was built in the 1920s and is designed in the Arts & Crafts style, so anyone with an eye for 20th Century rural architecture will find this building truly fascinating. The grounds of the house are gorgeous and set in a remote, beautiful valley. Eildon cooks fantastic food and there is always a bottle of great wine in her sellar. Finally, they have three lovely dogs who will happily curl up in front of the log fire late into the evening. Highly recommended.
TIP: If you can make it out to Yetholm to The Borders pub, I would recommend it. The food is gastro-style and incredibly nice.
Hethpool House is the ultimate in country living in England, with tens of thousands of acres of open land that once prized fox hunting, cairns or hill forts on nearly every hill, well-marked and maintained trails in every direction that wind along streams and through dense woods to a string of bed and breakfasts, interesting visitors from around the world who join in long discussions about myriad topics, a spacious mansion with every appointment, numerous out buildings, gardens and parks, and a host who cooks marvelous dinners from local products. There is no lack of things to do or places to eat. Four thousand years ago the north coast was ruled from a hilltop two kilometers away called Yeavering Bell, and Hethpool House feels like its descendant.
Fantastic location with stunning views and utter tranquility. Lovely hosts and a great breakfast. Diana (who also lives in he cottage) was extremely helpful and recommended a great local restaurant for our evening meal. I only wish I could have stayed longer.
Thoroughly recommend, Eildon was a fantastic host, and very accommodating indeed. Food was nothing short of first class and the room extremely comfortable. For anyone interested in walking/cycling, the surrounding countryside provides the ideal setting. Thank you Eildon for a wonderul stay!
I had only a short stay but the experience was fantastic. The house is remote, but it is completely worth the effort. My room was lovely and big, downstairs I had a sitting room to myself and Eildon was a great host. Next morning I had a wonderful breakfast. The bacon was particularly good, as was the homemade Danish compote (and so many other options were available). Eildon helped me select a walk in the stunning hills which surround the house. I walked over a nearby hill and then down to the waterfall. But I might be back to make my way further up the valley. All in all a really excellent experience.
We had a wonderful weekend in this fabulous bnb, the rooms are gorgeous the hosts very friendly and the supper in the evening marvellous, all this set in beautiful countryside. To sum up in one word magical... But don't take our word for it, go book a room for yourself. Thank you Jim and Di. We will be back....
This property is in a idyllic position in the Northumberland National Park, and the view from our room was lovely. We were the only people staying with Eildon while we were there, so we had the welcoming sitting room, complete with fire, all to ourselves. Eildon's three course dinner and cooked breakfast were delicious. Our room was very nice and warm.
Response from Eildon:
Thank you for your nice review, do make sure you come back again soon! Eildon
Eildon stayed 1 night with two other friends. They have been great guests, very easy, discret and good communication. They left the rooms clean. I highly recommend Eildon as a guest!
