Sorry you did not have a good experience. To address: I've never had a wasp problem, but being that the cottage is out in the woods, that is a possibility, especially if doors and windows are left open. The steps are actually normal and meet all regulations, and I've never had an inquiry about them. In fact, most people comment that they like them. I ask for all guests with pets to bring their own bedding and since you were bringing 3 dogs, that was customary. All the towels and linens are new (many even had tags still on them). All pillows are washed monthly. Sometimes there are stains that don't come out, but they are still clean. New bedding, towels, pillows, etc are routinely added. New rugs, towels and decor were actually added for your stay as well. Lastly, it's a small cottage, so it's best if the ceiling fans and A/C are kept running to circulate the air. Some of the smell you had might have been from the 3 dogs in a small space, especially if it was raining outside. Plus, normally, I don't have 3 adults staying at the cottage at one time, so that might keep air stagnate as well.
I'm glad you had a good experience at the cottage. I'm not sure about the noise because guests usually report that they love the peacefulness of the surroundings and neighborhood--the cottage is on a private dead end street and there are no neighbors on one side for at least 1/2 mile, and the neighbor on the other side is at least 100 yards away. Perhaps the music you heard was from a passing car. The house down the hill (and below) the cottage is a residence that belongs to a landscaper. They don't do work there, but perhaps they were testing out some equipment or cutting their own lawn that morning. It's normally very quiet and you never see or hear people.
Thanks for staying at the Victorian for the weekend! Just for clarification, all rooms are a shared bath, but a private bath option is available for an additional fee as described in the profile depending on the situation. I usually only mention it when guests inquire about it. I had planned to assign you the master bedroom (because it's bigger and nicer), so I had that bedroom and bathroom cleaned prior to check-in, but you chose the first floor, outside-entry bedroom since you said you preferred to be on the first floor and had a lot of equipment to bring in. I didn't get a chance to check that bedroom's bathroom as it had other guests using it at the time of check in, but I had just cleaned it the day before, so I figured it was ok. So sorry that it wasn't, but I wish you would have told me asap so that I could have cleaned it. Unfortunately though, sometimes it's unavoidable when it's a shared bath. Glad you had a good weekend here.
Reviews From Hosts
This was my third time in Armenia in two months, and it was the worst experience by far. The entire apartment needs to be rehabbed and the "host" needs some customer service training. Essentially everything Sona wrote above is a lie. First of all, this "apartment" was disgusting. It should not be listed on Airbnb. It smelled, the furniture was about 40-year old, the "bed" isn't a real bed but basically a really old futon mattress, all the dishes were cracked or broken, the shower nozzle didn't work, the power would go off intermittently, the shower water would often turn ice cold for no reason, the furniture was broken, the internet was off more than on (there was no reception the full last week), there wasn't an oven or a stove although she claimed it was a full kitchen, she only provided one very small trash can, only one small roll of TP (although it was a 3 week rental), everything was old and gross, and it was not functional. I had to brush my teeth in the kitchen sink because the bathroom "sink" was actually right on top of the tub, and not very hygienic. She left used soap in the shower and sink as well as used, dried washcloths, and nothing looked like it had been cleaned in ages. The dirty mop was RIGHT NEXT to the toilet seat so that you would be touching it if you went to the bathroom. I didn't want to touch anything and I had to clean anything before using. I even went out and bought extra sheets because the ones she provided were very old and gross. I had a few friends come up to look at the apartment, and they couldn't believe how gross it was, especially at the rate she was charging me. It was a "Soviet apartment" in the worst way. I have been a successful Airbnb host with multiple properties in a number of states for many years. She admitted that I was her first Airbnb guest she ever had. (1) She never lowered the rate for me. I booked it online at the online rate stated. I was staying for 3 weeks so I asked her if she would give me a discount. She said she would, but never did. I paid 2+ average (Armenia) months' salary for a 3 week stay so I thought it would be nice and she would be a more gracious host. I got neither. There are many full-service rental agencies in Yerevan that can provide you much better lodging for less money with much better professional service. Live and learn. (2) I contacted her from the airport, as she had requested, so she knew I was coming, but no one was at the apartment, which forced me to take a taxi to a nearby hotel to try to contact her again. She didn't "pick me up". She walked to the hotel, and rode back on the taxi with me, that I paid for. She never even offered to pay for the taxi even though she caused the confusion by not being available at check in. She also refused to help us although she never told me the apartment was 3 flights up, and by then, the taxi driver had left and couldn't help me. She was very rude by complaining that she had to wait for me (although she definitely wasn't waiting for me) and refusing to help me and my daughter even though it was 3 flights of stairs with no elevator and a pitch dark and dangerous staircase. When she finally helped with a carry-on, she ripped my suitcase on a wire that was protruding from the stairs!! It had to be bent back so that it wouldn't impale someone!! No apologies or anything! Then her sister called me and told me that they had the wrong number on the Airbnb profile and that she's the real contact person for the apartment (I had never spoken to her before). It was obvious that they were cheating me and were very unprofessional and inexperienced. (3) The fact that she states she didn't "believe" my complaints says a lot too. I told her that I had saved the dead cockroaches in the trash can so I'm obviously not lying. The internet was down the full last week (AND when she checked me out) so how could I be lying about it?? Why would what "other guests" say have anything to do with our stay when my complaints could be verified and are valid. Instead of apologizing, she was very rude, and in this review, she even claims that I'm lying. (4) I took pictures of the apartment (since I'm a host, this is a natural thing I do) also because I knew she would lie about the condition I left it in. I'm not sure who she thinks was "laughing" since there was absolutely nothing funny about the entire situation. It was very sad and unprofessional. When I was taking pictures she complained and was angry that I was taking pictures and said "Fine, then I'm going to take a picture of you too then" and she took a picture of me taking pictures of the apartment. That was very odd and childish behavior. Weird! The apartment was left in better condition than when I entered and her claim here that it was "disgusting" comes after I did a walk through with her and everything was approved. The cleaning after we left would have been very minimal since we were hardly in the apartment (I couldn't take the smell) and I tried to take showers elsewhere since the shower was useless. She also lied about "another guest" because she refused to let me check out after noon or leave my luggage at the apartment, even though my flight was later in the day and I had notified her of this when I had made my initial reservation, and in this review, she's claiming that she had to tell her "future guests" to wait. This was a horrible "apartment". It should never have been on Airbnb as a rental for people. The service on top of that was horrible, unprofessional and rude. In addition, the building is in ruins, has trash and urine smell at both entrances, the staircases are all in ruins and a danger, and there is no elevator (which she purposely didn't tell me). Also, the building isn't labelled with an address, and neither is her apartment door. The building requires a key or a code to enter, which she didn't give me. There was no way of getting inside the building, and she didn't give instructions on which building it was, how to get it, or how to check in. Horrible, horrible experience!!
