We stayed in this flat and an adjoining one for five nights. The flat is an appropriately dubbed antique apartment in the charmingly authentic medieval town of Tuscania. We found it quite spacious, home-like and easy to access. The setting is off-the-commercial-line with a charming ambiance, ripe for exploration. We found adventure and value here.
Tuscania is a fantastically charming place to stay. We were there two nights for a wedding being held in the Abbey of San Giusto nearby (which also is on airbnb, I think, and would well be worth checking out). This particular airbnb accommodation was convenient for us, and Mauro (who was the main person in touch with us, not Dino) was communicative and very quick to respond. The place is very unconventional: it's basically a beautifully decorated 'man cave', as my partner put it. It's effectively the cellar of a flat upstairs, and while it's been equipped with a kitchen and bathroom, etc. it still looks, smells, and feels a little like you're in someone's dungeon. It could work really well when it's mid-summer and the heat is full-on. There's no real bed, only a pull-out sofa bed (something we were worried about but which turned out to be fine). We knew there would be no wifi, but this proved to be more of a hassle once we were actually there--we resorted to going regularly to the nearby Boscolo Academy Hotel (which, when we peeked, had amazing grounds). I think ultimately it would have been nice to stay somewhere with more sunlight, and a view of the gorgeous countryside around Tuscania, but this basement flat worked fine for us in the end. Could be better in the winter (we noticed what seemed a kickbutt fireplace).
