Robert's place was exactly what my husband and I were looking for: affordable and pet-friendly. Really, I can't overstate this enough. This was our first time traveling with our dog and anyone who has done this knows it is either geographically impossible or prohibitively expensive, so Robert's flexibility was much appreciated. There is a large walk-in closet which was the perfect size to set up our dog's extra-large cage (he is 50 lbs but the cage is for up to 75 lbs). However, a caveat to this, the place isn't soundproof; this is an apartment with a private entrance but you still share a wall with Robert's residence. We could hear some noise from the other side, which was negligible, but if you had a barking dog it could definitely be heard.
We spent most of our time with family 30 minutes south so I can't comment much on the location in Sarasota except to say that there were plenty of places close by to get food and gas and that it has easy to access the highway. Overall, this was a great place to stay for a long weekend and had even more than we needed to feel comfortable. I would definitely recommend this place if you are traveling alone or with a partner in Sarasota.
Ii really enjoyed my week's stay with Rob. My apartment was roomy, with private entrance, well furnished, with utensils, nice TV, nice bed, Wi-Fi for my laptop, and loads of storage space. The location in South Sarasota was convenient. Rob was available and helpful with advice, and was working to get the pool free of leaves from the recent winds etc. Complaints from a recent review seemed overstated to me. I had a wonderful week in Sarasota.
I felt comfortable and safe staying in Robert's home. The room was pleasant, clean and had everything I needed. Robert was an excellent host and most of the time I didn't even know anyone else was in the house. I would stay here again.
Robert is a kind host but I was disappointed that the room did not live up to its description:
The pool was green and dirty.
The outdoor sitting are was unsightly with weeds, overgrown grass, and dead
leaves and branches.
The window air conditioner was noisy, making it hard to sleep.
When the air conditioner was running and I turned the microwave on, the circuit breakers tripped, plunging the room into darkness. Robert was quick to flip the switch - on his side- but once he was out to dinner and had to return home to fix it.
There was no sink in the kitchenette so dishes had to be washed in the bathroom sink. But the bathroom sink stopper didn't close the drain.
Using the toilet required constant plunging to clear it.
The only way to get fresh air was to open the door. But without a screen the bugs flew in.
The bed was nice and Robert offered weekly clean sheets.
Robert was an excellent host and very quick to respond to any questions or requests we had. The apartment was very comfortable - quiet & peaceful. And the little kitchenette and outdoor patio area were very convenient. Robert even added a string of outdoor lights so we could sit out and enjoy the warm evenings.
The apartment is conveniently located for getting around Sarasota and for getting to other areas. It is also very convenient to food stores and just about every other type of store a person might need. The apartment is comfortable and private. The host, Rob, was very pleasant and accommodating. I spent a month there and it a was a great spot for visiting the area.
Robert was a nice host and the room was very budget-friendly.
I am new to Airbnb and this was my first room use in a home (as opposed to a private apartment). The room was tidy and clean. I didn't spend a lot of time as I had to work most of the days I was there. There is not a kitchenette to use, but there is a microwave and fridge and Robert was kind enough to let me have some ice when needed. There is also a shared bathroom, that needs a little attention, but it was fine for a quick shower.
The most appreciated detail was the quiet evenings. It was nice to have a Florida breeze coming into the window. Sleeping was awesome! The home is also close to anything you may need and Siesta Beach is about 20 minutes away. So, the location was great.
Traveling by myself, and being the first time staying in a stranger's home...to be honest, I was a little unsettled at first. But Robert's kindness dissolved any misgivings I had about it.
Great stay. Attractive room & yard--even better than the photos!
