"We invite you to measure destinations by how deeply they move you." Anonymous
I am the very proud host of Ellen's GuestHouse, Richmond, CA as you can see on FB: (website hidden)
Originally from the Chicago area, I transplanted to the Bay Area over 30 years ago and learned my way around as a visitor.
As an avid traveler, I love staying where I get a sense of local flavor. At the end of a day of touring, the place I come back to needs to feel like, "Ah, things are calm and restful here. I can rest up here for another day out and about tomorrow." My home offers this respite. I love providing an aesthetically pleasing environment, that offers friendliness and calm.
I have had very satisfied guests from all over the world, Belgium, Washington DC, Wisconsin, Beijing, Singapore, Taiwan, China, Spain, Denmark, France, Russia, Australia, Germany, Cape Cod, Maryland, California, etc., and my place has been used for several photo shoots for books and online boutiques.
I speak some Spanish and get really clever using the computer to understand other languages.
I am happy to be helpful.
Some of my favorite visits have been to Calistoga in CA, Kauai, Galicia Spain, Soan River in France, Denmark, Paris, London, a small restaurant right here in San Fran on Claude and another in Port Costa, The Bull Valley Roadhouse. What makes these great visits are the people I find there, the atmosphere and the food. I stay in Airbnbs, hostels, upscale hotels, spas, friends homes, canal boats. I do what I need to get the best flavor of the culture I am living in. This is my reason for travel, to live in other peoples' shoes. It is also my reason for hosting, I get to know people from a different perspective.
I have a favorite quote: "What else is life for than to make other peoples' lives a bit easier." This is what I use as my compass for living.
"We invite you to measure destinations by how deeply they move you."
