Mary provided us with a wonderful experience - a complimentary bottle of wine was just the start. She also provided us with muffins, bagels, and some of her own artwork. She is very friendly and her place was cute, quaint, and just as advertised.
Mary's corner of Carmel was incredibly friendly and comfortable (many thanks to Mary here!) and was a great opportunity for some peace, quiet and relaxation alongside one of the most amazing coastlines me and my wife have ever seen.
Thanks again Mary!

Really loved this cottage. Mary allowed us to check in when we wanted to. When we arrived the place was nice and clean with a bottle of red wine waiting for us. Fireplace kept us warm and the back yard view was very enjoyable. Bed was absolutely comfy. Wifi was available for use. If you are staying during a chilly time, may suggest to bring extra firewood or ask for more. We were not able to find extra. Luckily the weather was warm. But other than that would love to stay in this cottage again. Thank you Mary. =)
Mary was a great host on our weekend to Carmel. The cabin is quiet, private and has everything you'll need. You can even hear the ocean while lying in bed!
You have to see Marys art gallery downtown Carmel which is full of amazing pieces. We will definitely be back.
This cottage is super cozy and private! It's a little chilly, but there is a great fireplace and lots of blankets to keep you warm. Mary provided a great breakfast and a bottle of wine. There are ocean views that were partially obscured by trees- I was there in spring, but I think that if you visited a different time of year, the vegetation would be thinner and you could see more. The location can't be beat for a roadtrip on the 1 or a trip to Big Sur, point lobos, or Carmel. We had dinner in Big Sur on our first night, then drove 6 minutes to Point Lobos State Reserve to amazing hiking, then had lunch in Carmel!
Mary's Treehouse was a very comfortable getaway from the city. In addition, the location was the perfect distance from hiking nearby trails in Big Sur and experiencing downtown life in Carmel. Mary was very accommodating with the check-in time, and hospitable with the wine and breakfast items she left for us. I would definitely come back the next time I am in Carmel!
totally charming cottage, excellent views. And a fireplace! Wonderful.
We had a lovely stay at the Mair's Lair this past weekend! Mary was wonderful and welcoming, our treehouse was very clean and cozy with a very comfy bed and treats and wine in the kitchen to welcome us!
A wonderful first experience for us using AirBnB!
Mary was an excellent host. She was super accommodating of our flexible arrival time and had excellent advice on what to do in the area. The Treehouse is lovely, comfortable and cozy. Great location - it feels remote while still being within easy reach of both Monterey and Big Sur. The view of the stars was incredible! We would definitely stay here again.
I met Mary while she was painting in her gallery many years ago while visiting Carmel. She was so fun, vivacious and talented that I just had to get to know her better and so I flew back to attend one of her painting workshops. We have been dear friends ever since. My husband says he never hears me laugh so much as when I am with Mary - she is just that kind of a fun and gregarious personality. Everyone loves her.
Several years ago, when my husband and I lived in Saudi Arabia we arranged for her to come over and teach some workshops and have an art show. One of Princesses sponsored her and gave her access to her car pool and chauffeurs. Mary had such a way of making everyone feel special that one day when the Princess was sending a driver with a message all 4 drivers showed up! They just wanted to bask in her wonderful, generous energy.
A couple of months ago I travelled back to Carmel and Mary offered me a place to stay. And what a place! Her apartment is so comfortable and delightfully put together. I couldn’t believe the artwork! She had built a lovely little garden area outside the kitchen that was perfect for reading, sipping my coffee and taking pictures of the birds that came to feed and bathe. I loved my time there and so appreciate the use of her charming little hideaway. I highly recommend it to anyone who would like to visit the area and experience the peacefulness of the highlands, enjoy the fresh ocean air and blissful nights of quiet sleep all while still being within 10 minutes to the heart of Carmel. So much nicer than a hotel.
