I'm a politically and socially progressive environmentalist, as is my travel companion. We live in a Virginia suburb of Washington, DC, where we spend a lot of time creating wildlife habitats/living classrooms in schoolyards and converted my entire yard into a wildlife habitat with native plants (except for the vegetable garden). My partner, Victor, is originally from Bolivia and has lived in the US for 30 years.
On December 16, 2011, I commuted for the last time to the city to my office job, where I was a fund raiser in higher education. My main focus for the past several months has been on taking care of unfinished business, donating or selling much of what I own, lightening the load so as to be more mobile, and getting healthier (thanks to yoga and ayurveda). Victor and I are now heading off to explore the US first, then to go southward. We began our journey at the end of August 2012, and where we go and how long it takes are pretty open questions.
