Adrienne was a pleasure to host. We had a good time, and she took care of the house wonderfully.
I have been an airbnb host since 2012 and this is my most disappointing hosting experience yet.
I would neither host this group again nor recommend anyone host them without overseeing the entire visit. I am totally in support of the mission of HerSake - that’s what makes this even more of a bummer. The booking was officially under Adrienne’s name but I dealt with both Adrienne and her partner Lydia. The issues:
1) They used a ladder to climb over the fence into the neighbors backyard to do some of their filming there. My neighbor is an elderly (80+ year old) that lives by herself. Understandably, she was completely shocked and very upset. When she rattled on the window, to get their attention, Adrienne and Lydia and crew ran away. This ended up confusing and scaring her. This incident created a lot havoc (we had to convince her not to call the police, it ended up in our Neighborhood Association news, I had to explain the situation to my building co-owners) but most of all, it really made me question the basic judgement of these guests. When I confronted them about it, they completely admitted it and explained that the yard looked overgrown so they assumed the building was abandoned and that it was OK to use a ladder to climb over the fence. To be clear - it looks somewhat unkempt but it turns out that my neighbor is just too old/frail to push a lawnmower or afford to have it landscaped.
2) They moved furniture around the house and did not return it to the place it is started. (A table was moved from the living room to the TV room. A big chair was moved from the living room to the office. A stool was moved from the kitchen to the back outdoor stairwell and left there overnight.). When I asked them about this, they said they weren’t sure where to put things back to and they were sorry.
3) One third of a bottle of tequila was consumed (when I asked about it, they offered to replace it).
4) Several overhead lights at the front of the house aren't working. Turns out that circuits were broken and require an electrician to come and repair (they warned me that they had blown fuses at other places but assured me they could handle any issues that might come up at the fusebox). When I asked them about it, they claimed they didn't cause it. I have no way of knowing if this is true.
Of course, all of these other issues are trivial in light of the issue with my neighbor. It’s worth noting the house rules do not explicitly tell guests not to intrude on my neighbor's property or not drink the booze or to leave the place with the furniture as they found it. Before these guests, I never imagined I had to be that explicit!
Adrienne was an awesome guest. Super friendly and easy to book and communicate with. Her team left our apartment in perfect condition. We would gladly welcome them back any time!
Adrienne and her crew of grad students rented the artist's studio for a documentary they were shooting. They liked the large arty room and deck and even included our cute dog in their project. They were professional and I wish them well.
Adrienne and her film crew used my place for two nights and were very good guests. The place was in good shape after they left. Very responsible guest.
Absolutely wonderful guest
Great Guest! Welcome back anytime.
Thanks for staying with.
