Zhi (Nancy) and her friend, Jessica, spent three nights with me, as they explored San Diego and practiced their English. They were utterly charming and very generous. As is customary with Chinese people, they came bearing gifts, and they seemed to just keep coming. They were very grateful for the time I spent with them and some rides I provided. They showed their gratitude by treating a friend and me to dinner on their last night here. They were so enthusiastic about improving their English skills and learning about the United States. It was a pleasure to observe their interactions with people and their surroundings! Nancy is a world traveler. She is also an excellent photographer. She and Jessica have invited me to visit their home city. They have both talked about returning to San Diego. I believe this would be Nancy's fourth visit. Hosting Nancy and Jessica was a wonderful experience. I highly recommend them.
Nancy stayed with us for 4 days and was kind, considerate, quiet and communicated any questions she had. She was truly delightful
Nancy was a lovely guest, she's quiet and considerate. She was here to explore the bay area, but she was anxious to share all her travel stories as well. Would be happy to host her again
Nancy was a very enthusiastic guest who was very happy to be here in the US. She said she was honored to be my first guest from China. She had limited English, but worked diligently at her English homework while she was with me. We relied on iPad and cell phone translation apps to communicate complex ideas, and were mostly successful.
She was a thoughtful and appreciative guest, bringing me several small presents. She was happy to cook me simple Chinese dishes, and brought home special food from Chinatown to share with me for the Dragon Festival, which occurred while she was my guest.
I enjoyed getting to know Nancy, and I'm glad she stayed with me, however, we had some awkward moments. I believe this was due to the language barrier, and some expectations she had based on not having a clear understanding of the contract between an AirBnB guest and host.
I have the feeling that translation issues are still being worked out on the site, and that as these are resolved, communication will be a lot smoother between guests and hosts who don't have the same first language.
