Bob was very helpful and friendly. He picked us up from the airport. He organised scooter and gave good tips about what to do in Chiang Mai.
Bob was a very courteous host. After a two day trip of getting to Chiang Mai, it was very helpful and appreciated to be picked up right at the airport.
Teak house is super cute and unlike your chain hotels, it has character!
If you are looking for an authentic place, this is it. You are right in the local neighbourhood, with food within walking distance and little fresh fruit stands from local villagers. You merge into their life, rather than be a tourist. That was the best part of the trip. Bob graciously advised on ways of getting around the area, as well as showed us around himself. We felt as friends. Our stay was great. And his other bungalow houses are all different flavours and thoughtfully done.
We really had a great time up in Chiang Mai. Bob was really kind and told us a lot about the city. The house we stayed into was a dream!
Beautiful grounds, cozy, slightly rustic tastefully decorated cabin. I enjoyed sleeping to the sound of water stream. I appreciated staying a bit out of Chiang Mai centre. I used a scooter to explore some outstanding scenery in the neighbourhood of rice paddies and a breathtaking canyon that doesn't draw large crowds. Delicious fried chicken right around the corner :)
Bob was extremely generous and his pick up and drop off service was a bonus! Bob, I enjoyed talking with you.
Bob was a great host. The teak house I stayed in was very charming. I had a great stay.
Bob was extremely gracious with us and it was a pleasure to be hosted by him. He picked us up and dropped us off at the airport as a matter of course. He gave us many valuable tips and was always available to book any activities we were interested in. He checked on us daily to see how we were getting on and was great to chat with. Bicycles were available and he even provided us with a motorcycle when the local rental guy finished his.
The house is charming and well furnished. The location is close to the airport and a bit out of town. The use of the bike was essential and made our stay very comfortable and flexible.
We really enjoyed staying at Bob's large guest house, and he was a welcoming and approachable host. Our plans were a bit in flux during our stay, but Bob was always helpful and flexible. He has great insight into Thailand and Chiang Mai, too, if you need help getting around or arranging trips. All of his houses are beautifully constructed and hidden away from the main road. The large guest house in particular is a great place for a couple, a family or someone who wants a little extra space. The location is great if you want to be near to Chiang Mai (about 25 minutes by car to downtown) without staying in the more crowded/touristy hustle of the city. Public transport is readily accessible, and an incredibly delicious restaurant (with the most friendly Thai family we've met) is just around the corner.
Great stay! Our little home in Hang Dong. Stayed for 8 nights and really felt as if we lived there. Bob is a wonderful host, so welcoming and accommodating. The teak houses are lovely and he has done a lovely job of making the area a little sanctuary full of greenery, shade and the beautiful soundtrack of birds and the running creek next door. Having the kitchen was fantastic, being long-term, budget travellers it was perfect for us to be able to prepare our own food at times. There is a really great supermarket down the road that has anything you could possibly want. For times you want to eat out close by, there is a great little cheap and cheerful spot a 2 min walk away, but of course you can take a drive into town - about 20 mins or so. Afternoons were spent chilling out and swimming in the quarry 'the canyon', also not far. We were volunteering as dog walkers at Care For Dogs during our time here, and for anyone else doing this, this location is great. And for those of you who have time, highly recommend taking some time to head over and spend a morning with them, they are doing some wonderful work with Thai street dogs. Dog lovers are also in for a treat at Bob's place with his gorgeous little clan :) Our stay was perfect for us - Thanks so much Bob!
Bob kindly picked us up at 6.00 in the morning, way beyond the call of duty ! He also took us to the bus station on departure day. The house and location are exactly as described. The houses are spacious and set in a wonderful jungle garden. Heavy, solid Thai furniture throughout. The bathroom needs updating but, to be honest, the price is so reasonable that I feel quality versus price is excellent. It's about 15 mins from Chiang mai and, as others have mentioned, it's easy to take the mini bus and fun too. Bob also booked a wonderful trek up to the mountain villages to visit an elephant sanctuary , run by the Burmese / Thai villagers themselves which I found very genuine and not touristy as I had expected. We went in the rainy season so in general there is little tourism in comparison to other times of the year. We took bikes ( they need an overhaul !) to the nearby village , famous for their wood carving both of objects as well as some gorgeous furniture. Sometimes we ate locally in the 2 or 3 restaurants round the corner. We enjoyed being outside Chiang Mai as the location is quiet. Bob's dogs are well behaved and very friendly but if you don't like dogs then this is not for you...
