Holly was an awesome host. I didn’t arrive until almost midnight but that was fine, she was still up. Upon my arrival she offered me some homemade tempura, which was delish.
Holly has a house full of teenagers and a big dog but you would never know it. They made almost no noise, not even on the weekend. The apartment was cozy yet large. It’s two doors down from a Bikram Yoga studio so if you like to practice yoga this is your place. The bathing experience was spectacular.
This is a basement apartment in Oregon, you must embrace your inner hippie to really appreciate the place. It is a little musty but totally homey. The kitchen / living room is perfect for hosting a little dinner with friends, if that is your thing. The proximity to Alberta street is great. It’s a short walk to tons of great food and drinks. The parking was even easy.
Holly was friendly but not nosey. She was welcoming to my guests and all in all a super host. I will stay here again.
Oh dear. I literally could not stay here. The basement apt is very dark and the smell of cat urine permeated absolutely everything. My husband stayed for a few nights while I stayed w/family, & he ended up leaving early. Holly was lovely on the phone & in emails, but -- this is a habitat fit (at best) for undergrads who perhaps are too busy inventing new technologies to care about their surroundings.
Alberta St. was the perfect spot for weekend urban fix. Plenty of room for 3 adults and our toddler. The apartment is clean with some decadent touches. Holly and her family were very accommodating hosts and very easy to reach when we had questions. For those of wanting a little "Portlandia", the Alberta neighborhood is a really god place to start!
Nice little garden apartment and very friendly hosts, I would certainly stay here again in the future. A few tasty things in the fridge and cabinets was a nice touch! Thanks Holly.
Very beautiful , large and comfortable space! Holly was very thoughtful in putting out kids' books when I told her I was traveling with my two young kids. She was flexible about arrival and departure times, which was great. However, she told us she would bring us breakfast one morning and then it never arrived, which was a bit awkward. The decor is very bright and cheery, and the bathtub was awesome--all four of us piled in one morning for a family bath and the kids loved it. Quirks: it's cold and there's no thermostat downstairs. Since it's a basement apartment it gets almost no natural light so it's very dark, though the bright colors mitigate the effect a bit (and in Portland it's pretty dark most of the year, anyways). In addition, the microwave wasn't working and the stove is natural gas but you have to light it by match or lighter each time you turn it on. The location can't be beat, though, if you want to stay near Alberta street! All shops within walking distance.
Wonderful and beautifully decorated space, within walking distance to all the artsy necessities and plenty of parking. Holly is so mindful and detailed about creating a welcoming space- down to candles in the bathroom and fresh rosemary to awaken the senses. The beds are very comfortable, and there is enough room to cook and lounge. Our highlights: The "pretty pretty princess" raised bed in one bedroom and the soothing rainbow tub/shower. *Request to heat the space before arrival, since the thermostat is located upstairs in the main part of the house. The unit is on the lower level of the house.
