I continue to be impressed by the quality of people I meet through Airbnb.
I've been hosting for about four years.
La Gomera is a simple place and I enjoy showing people around.
No cinema, shopping mall, billboards or fast food.
This is a port village. We live with the rhythms of the tide and moon.
The top attraction here is the incredible marine abundance. Most visitors spend at least half a day whale-watching. That's not enough, in my opinion.
I grew up on the coast of Southern California where whale watching is a seasonal attraction—but you mostly just see dolphins. Not that I don't like dolpins (I do!) but it's rare to see a whale.
Here in Valle Gran Rey, you can see whales year 'round.
The sea cliffs are full of migratory birds.
Schools of Hammerhead sharks live around the coast. (Don't worry, they're more afraid of you, and rarely sighted.)
On the way to El Hierro, you see whale sharks and devil rays.
