Lisa was super friendly and welcoming. She spent time with us going over the area and gave us a lot of helpful guides for Kyoto when we first arrived, and was prompt getting back to us whenever we had questions. The apartment itself was great - compact and very clean. It's a short walk from the northern end of the Philosopher's Path and Ginkaku-ji, and close to the 206 bus that takes you to Tokyo station. Lisa also had tips for cafes and restaurants and a little journal previous guests have written in - if you're not a planner and are hoping to discover things along the way, she's the perfect host!
Lisa was a great host & gave us great suggestions for places to see and things to eat. The apartment was very clean, cozy and in a great location, we look forward to visiting in the future!
I enjoyed every minute of my stay in this perfectly appointed little Kyoto apartment. It met my every expectation. Lisa is a warm and attentive host who has thought of every detail to make guests feel at home: comfortable bed, dishware, linens, tea, juice and fruit, clear instructions, a room heater. The deep Japanese tub was welcome to soak weary bones after sightseeing. The quiet neighborhood was a welcome opportunity to live a Japanese life for a few days. There were nearby restaurants, a thriving mainstreet, a wonderful old shrine with peacocks, illuminated by lanterns at night, and a tram line just blocks away to take on an amazing day trip into the nearby mountains to Kurama to enjoy autumn color, a hike in the woods to a mountaintop temple and an onsen hot springs spa. Due to my age and lack of athletic ability, I did not take advantage of the bikes. However, I hired a guide to meet me at the apartment and together we used nearby bus transport to tour some of the famous Kyoto temples. I had no trouble hailing a taxi near the main road when I needed one. Exploring the immediate area on foot was a delight. Had I had more days, I would definitely have used the helpful Kyoto guidebooks Lisa provided for further exploration of Kyoto sights. Having stored my luggage at Kyoto station upon arrival my first day, I took the subway to Nishiki market and stocked up on a few yummy groceries and treats, which I later enjoyed for evening meals in the cozy apartment. Having my own fridge, toaster oven, electric tea kettle and gas range cooktop there with dishes, pots and pans, made it fun to return to my own little place rather than having to go out to eat...even though many local eating spots looked tempting. I augmented supplies at Lawson's and the liquor store on the main road, both of which had many gourmet treats, both Japanese and imported to tempt a Foodie to indulge. I just wish I could have spent more time here and hope to return someday. Thanks, Lisa, for making your place available and sharing it with me!
This is a nice homely apartment, located in a nice area of Kyoto, a quick walk away from the Philosopher's path. Lisa is extremely nice and went out of her way to make our stay comfortable. She has great tips, guide books and maps that were very useful. We were very happy with out stay. Thanks Lisa!
This is a studio apartment in a very nice area with many great restaurants and bars around the corner (university area). The location is perfect for visiting shrines and you can drive with the bikes to the inner city. The appartement was perfectly clean. We very much appreciate her personal help and introduction to all tipps, maps and hotspots of kyoto. We loved staying ad her place and hardly recommend this opportunity. Sarah and Stephan
Lisa is very friendly and helpful. She gave us many good tips for both things to see and places to eat, plus bike rentals and other practicalities. Her flat has a good location for exploring the city, and in particular for exploring the North-Eastern part of Kyoto, plus taking a daytrip out to Kurama and Kibune up in the local mountains.
Lisa's apartment was a very good choice for me. She is a very nice, helpful and welcoming host, the place in itself is warm and clean. I wish I could stay more and hope to come back one day!
Its an good place for a backpacker, but with a heavy luggage. Its super close to the Temple, which made it worth to stay.
So many feet things to say about Lisa's apartment! Amazing location in Kyoto, close to so many wonderful sites and adventures. I enjoyed exploring all of the nearby shrines ad taking in all of the wonderful food Kyoto has to offer...I highly recommend trying Cross (free wi-fi), great for an early morning breakfast to get your day started. The apartment has just the right amount of space, with a view of the mountains that is a sight to see. Lisa was quick to respond to any questions I had and was beyond helpful is pointing out the best ways to get around....her spare bike was so much fun to cruise around on and the best way to see the city. I can't wait to return to Kyoto to explore more!! Thanks Lisa
Will provided great directions and pocket Internet across Tokyo really helped. His place was conveniently located and allowed us to get to all the sights of Tokyo. We would definitely recommend staying at his place.
