I always respect house rules (see other hosts' reviews of me) and there is nowhere written that we needed to do the dishes before leaving. Julia also charged $76 cleaning fee, which I can rightly assume to include cleaning the dishes. Having said that, if she had told us to do the dishes, we would have done it. For example, she requested us to take the rubbish out to the recycling bin, which was 8 mins walk away, which we did because I always respect a host's request.
I'm giving Julia the benefit of the doubt as I think she's probably new at this and does not appreciate that there has to be clarity on house rules to avoid differences in expectations. I have never had to do dishes when a cleaning fee is charged, unless the house rule was clear on it. (website hidden) 'Airbnb Wash Dishes' and you can see it is a subjective matter whether you need to or not, especially if you've paid cleaning fee. For example, 2 weeks before staying at Julia, I stayed at a place 5 mins away from her place and over there I didn't need to do the dishes or empty the trash before leaving as there is a cleaning fee charged (we just empty the trash as and when it became full during our stay).
