We had the best time staying with Thai in his beautiful house and garden. Kieu's organisation made things easy - and her mother's home-cooked meals were delicious. After moving around Vietnam and staying in all sorts of hotels, having two nights in Long Bien was perfect: Thai's house is a sanctuary in an amazing city, and being a bit out of town was not a problem - in fact, it was great to be able to escape the chaos of downtown Hanoi. You need to get taxis in and out of town, but Thai will order them for you; and if you get stuck, the driver can ring Thai or Kieu for directions - so even if you feel stuck, you're not. This is an artist's home - if you know what that means, then stay here! It has soul and style, colour and warmth.
The owner is very nice and helpful. He gave us great advice on restaurants, shops and places to visit. The place is absolutely unique. Beautiful from every angle. We coukdnt stop taking pictures! The owner himself is an artist and his house reflects his bohemian taste and sensibility. However the add is not 100% clear: you are not renting a whole house for yourself, it's more of a home stay and the owner sleeps downstairs.
Absolutely recommended! Thanks Mr Thai for your hospitality!
Such a beautiful place in Hanoi ! I could have stay doing nothing but read and feel the atmosphere in this wonderful cottage !!
This place is magical. It brings back experience of ancient life of Hoi An back to modern life. The house was designed and built by French engineers, who understands Vietnamese culture. The furniture and decor are meticulous. Lots of trees to cool it off on a hot summer day (if the aircon is not enough for you). I didn't meet Kieu, but one of the owner's father, who took a great care of us. My dad loves talking to him about old times. The listing is back to the market after renovation and the hosts took guest feedback pretty seriously.
The house looks as beautiful in real life as it does in the photographs and we had a great time during our stay with Thai and his two well natured cats. It's an incredibly atmospheric house which was well worth our stay. He was helpful when recommending restaurants and places to go, and made us a very fresh breakfast of yoghurt, fruits, and bread with homemade jam. If you let him know in advance, he can even help you source some good wine for your stay.
This place is relatively far from the old quarter, so keep that in mind. Thai will help you call taxis though. Lastly, make sure you book the cooking class that is offered. It's well worth the money, and was one of the highlights of our trip!
This is a very interesting home of Thai, a painter, who lives alone (along with a couple of cats). The home is large, old, and full of interesting artwork, collectible items and a zen garden. The house is comfortable. Thai is a gracious host, making breakfast for us on our first morning there. The home is in the Long Bien area, away from the hustle of the city. You will, however, need to get a taxi (Thai will help you call one) in order to get to a restaurant, as there are none within walking distance. All in all, a very interesting place to reflect and recharge.
This was a really fabulous experience. The ad is actually a little deceiving, as it is listed as entire apt/space when it is in fact a private room / home stay with owner Mr Thai. Check in was a bit bumpy as the house appeared vacant and gate was chained on arrival, and when I called Kieu I couldn't get through, so I thought I'll wait it out. Soon after Mr Thai came to let me in. Initially I was confused/uncomfortable because again was under the impression I would have the whole house to myself. But once I worked that out it was great.
Now for the good stuff! The house is really incredible. This is truly a place to unwind and relax. I wouldn't recommend using this as a base to explore Hanoi, as it is not close to the city centre, but would definitely recommend it for the same reasons. I did this stay towards the end of my trip and it was a perfect way to relax, as its very peaceful and 'zen' there.
Mr Thai is a very quiet man, however he is also very intelligent and interesting, and very hospitable. He cooked all meals for me, however I'm unsure if this is guaranteed for every guest, perhaps depending on his own schedule so check to make sure.
I did a cooking class with kieu and her mother at the house, who are both very beautiful, kind and friendly women. Kieu and her mother also showed me around their vegetable patches / fields which was a real highlight! I also got taken to the river to watch some locals swimming at sunset, they were all very friendly, lots of laughs!
All in all this stay was a big highlight of my trip. As with everything in Asia, if something doesn't pan out how you expected, just roll with it and see where it takes you! Highly recommend.
Gorgeous home. Arrived late and unfortunately had to leave early next morning so couldn't enjoy it fully. Very sweet caretaker. Would definitely recommend.
On y reviendra, merci Thaï
my boyfriend and I had a good vibe staying at the house. Thai is an artist who has a welcome and friendly personality. He has a cute cat who is hungry all the time :). The house look exactly the same as photos shown on the website. Thai cooked us breakfast on the day we arrived. His cook is good - baguette and pate are delicious also goat yogurt pudding liked texture is worth to try. He took us to the local market on the next day for Pho (rice noodle) and drove us to the city center. He gave us big help as well as recommended nice places to visit. Thai speaks Vietnamese English and French. I will definitely stay here again at my next visit.
