It has been a great experience staying at Coskun's. The place gives a flavor of old Istanbul and is surrounded by ethnic, well prepared food. The neighborhood is only few minutes from the all the tourist attractions and the main Fateh area.
The place is clean and comfortable and meet all the need a tourist may need. The host is cheerful and always willing to help any way needed. Could not ask for any more.
The roof top breakfast is unforgettable experience with delicious home cooked breakfast and amazing view of Bosphorous. Have not seen such a combination of nature and history in their best mood in a very long time. Thanks for all the Hospitality and Care.
First thing to mind when arriving at Coskun's flat is: what a view. Right behind Saint Anthony's Church, yet high enough to clear the neighboring buildings to see across to the Bosphorus. Please note not too trust the Airbnb default map, that takes you to a somewhere not even close. Google Translate Coskun's instructions if you don't read Turkish and it will direct you straight to your temporary new home. I really dig the roof top patio. Location is right in the heart of Taksim so you can't go wrong. Not for the athletically-challenged though. I'm used to climbing and regularly keep up my cardio so I wasn't too winded, but some guests may have trouble with 6 fights of stairs.
In short, an awful experience!
But I’ll be honest and list the pros and cons of my experience.
Coskun and his staff (the apartment is right next to an hotel) are very friendly;
We had right to breakfast in the hotel (not that great), which was not mentioned in the airbnb page;
Coskun offered to change the sheets and clean the apartment in the middle of our stay;
Coskun was prompt to try and solve the problems that occurred;
Coskun offered us the apartment we stayed in instead of another near the bar zones, which had noise until very late.
I asked for a pickup for a friend arriving at 05:00, Coskun forgot it;
The apartment looked nothing like the pictures, which was the worst of all, for the money I paid I expected picture type quality, not what I found;
The water heating wasn’t working when my friend arrived, got fixed in the afternoon of the next day;
The apartment smelled greatly of pipes, it seemed the apartment wasn’t used in a while;
The apartment was full of mold. Inside closets, ceiling, on the wall right next to my bed. I suffer from asthma and my lungs contracted the minute I entered the apartment, but I was able to make it through without suffering an attack;
The bed sheets had stains and one of them was ripped;
There was almost no kitchen utensils to cook with and the apartment as it was, left no mood to spend time on;
I had some problems connecting my iPhone and iPad to the wi-fi, the signal was almost nonexistent in my room and the internet speed is quite weak;
Tv only has Turkish channels, if you’re hoping to use it;
The shower tube broke during our stay, but was fixed during the day after we reported it;
I asked for a transfer to the airport and asked for a free transfer to compensate the crude error at the start, was offered a 5€ reduction on the fare;
Liked the hotel, nice and cozy rooms, convenient location.
Clean and spacious rooms, right in the middle of the touristic part of Istanbul. Staff was friendly and helpful and 24/7 check-in came in handy. Definitely recommended!
The location was fantastic and the people were really good. You could walk to all of the sights Blue mosque, Topkapi, Hagia Sophia from the hotel. Coskun and Haldun made the stay very comfortable. The room was a little small though, we could not open 2 luggages at the same time and not get in each other's way. But I guess its pretty much like that for most of the hotels there. Other than that, the place was good.
Très bon quartier. Le personnel très accueillant.
simply GREAT !!! GRACIAS EVERYONE. great location. great bkfst but abive above all great people at the flat facilities!
Thank you Amigo .
You have in Istanbul too .
The apartment itself is just as shown and described and is great for a family. Location is brilliant being only 5 mins walk from the main attractions in SultanAhmet (Blue Mosque, Aya Sofia and Topkapi palace etc). We were made to feel very welcome we were also given breakfast included as it is attached to a hotel which was a nice touch. The breakfast is the same all week though so if you want variety you will need to try other places. The owners also arranged for airport transfers which was a great help. 5 of us in a minibus for 35 euros one way.
Wifi worked but was a bit erratic so the connection came and went but useable.
The entrance and staircase to the apartment needs some work as it feels very run down. Also there are several buildings in various state of building in the vicinity so doesn't look the best area but we had no issues with it.
Apartment did smell of smoke but not unsurprising as guess previous occupants were smokers.
Overall we had a great week so thank you for your hospitality.
Cosy little apartment and superbly well located for main attractions and restaurants.
I have been traveling to istanbul since June 2010 and am very happy to have found this charming little boutique hotel. The service is very friendly and and the location is perfect - right in the heart of the old town.
Most of my time is spent working here I have not had time to set aside for sight seeing, however the location of this hotel is so convenient that sights such as Aya Sophia, the Blue Mosque and the Basilica Cistern are just a few steps away - you can see them from the hotel terrace.
There is also free WiFi throughout the hotel and I found that I could work just as easily from the rooftop terrace as I could from my room with the benefit of really pretty views of the Bosporus and Sultanahmet.
There are also excellent restaurants, cafés and crafts stores right on the same street and in the evenings I found that the area was busy enough that I could wander around quite comfortably on my own and try waterpipes or maybe go to have a drink and a meal. There is also food available at the hotel and a really nice buffet breakfast is free for all guests and served on the terrace.
I really like this hotel and now I only stay here when I have to travel to Istanbul. If you are like me and enjoy history and seeing ancient things. I highly recommend Sultanahmet. If you do choose to come to Istanbul, I think you will like the Star Hotel.
