We had an amazing time. The property is beautiful. Our dog had a great time running around in the huge garden. Perfect location for a week end getaway.
Me and my girlfriend spent a week in Michael's wonderful house at the end of June. We could not happier with it. House is perfectly located, it's far enough from the road to feel that you are totally isolated in the nature but close enough drive to main town Callicoon to get some groceries and use Internet in the local coffee shop. Sunday local farmers market is exceptional!
Since there are no neighbors at sight you can really get sense of quietness and peace. House has everything you can possibly need. Large outdoor patio overlooks beautiful land and is perfect for meals, reading and especially quite morning coffee. Kitchen is fully equipped and any kind of meals could be prepared. We made bonfire every night outside in the front yard and spent evenings chatting and looking at the lighting bugs and stars. Truly magical place to escape from the busy city life. Michael was very helpful to answer all the questions and left helpful information about the house and area. Looking forward to stay at Michael's house again!
Thanks Yana, glad you had a great time and we would be happy to have you as out guest again soon
Staying at Michael's was great. The yard is enormous and it gave our dog plenty of space to run around and hang out. You really feel removed from everyone and everything. The grill on the deck is huge and in great condition. It's awesome for preparing dinner on the huge table on the deck. The kitchen is great too: well stocked with excellent knives, pots and pans, and baking sheets and dishes. Enough to prepare a major feast.
To echo some other reviewers, the owners definitely use the house. In our case, they had used it recently before we got there so we had to replace the sheets on the bed. A minor inconvenience.
Overall, we had an amazing time and would happily return!
Hi Ryan, thanks so much for your stay and we were happy to have had such great guests!
Host was great in communicating and followup prior to arrival. Clear and helpful directions. The house was spacious and welcoming. Only, small negative, was that there house was a bit dirty when we arrived and there were no clean linens, so we had to wash them immediate upon arrival. Small compliant about an otherwise very positive experience.
The house was BEAUTIFUL and the property was gorgeous and well-maintained. Everything was well-kept and perfectly equipped. Mike was a pleasure to deal with. The bike riding around the area was fantastic too! Very happy with the experience.
We had a wonderful time at Michael's place which turned out to be even more beautiful and special than we expected. The house itself was very clean, spacious and comfortable. The outside was very beautiful both during the day and at night when the deer and the stars came out. We used the fire pit on one night and my son adored making smores there and playing on the grounds with his walkie talkies - he felt like an explorer. I hope we will be able to return here next year for more days.
My wife, my mother in law, my 10 year old son and I were looking for a place in the area for just a couple of nights prior to vacation down to Tennessee.
First of all, the location is wonderful. Sitting on the deck under the stars (and there are lots and lots of stars) in the morning with a cup of coffee, or pretty much any time of the day is wonderful. Although the house was a bit of a drive along a very pretty road it didn't feel *too* long for our trips into Callicoon and up to French Woods. It certainly is quiet here and quite relaxing.
However, we do have a minor complaint. I think it is mostly a matter of communication and expectations but we were a bit surprised as to the state of the house when we arrived. The house appears to be the owners home first, that is available as a rental, rather than a vacation rental house that is occasionally used by the owner. It almost looked like the family had just left as there were toys scattered in the living room and the bed in the childs room was unmade (to be fair, Michael may not have been aware that our son was coming). Both my wife and mother in law wondered, "does he know we're coming". The refrigerator was full and it was generally unclear as to how much we could "make ourselves at home". Was it okay to use a couple of scoops of coffee or could we eat the ice cream in the fridge as well? The gist of our complaint is that it felt a bit uncomfortable because we didn't really know what to expect before we arrived. I think the entire experience could have been improved just by having better communication regarding what to expect when we got there. A note that simply said, "Feel free to use anything in the fridge" or "Don't drink all the milk" would have set our minds at ease and allowed us to relax even more than we did.
Overall, I want to leave a favorable review as this is a lovely house in an amazing location but it would get at least another star if the communication for what to expect at the house was better. Staying here is more like being a guest of the family than like staying in a vacation rental or hotel room.
Had a lovely weekend at Michael's house. The land is amazing and the kids just loved running around outside and playing at the creek. Communication with Michael was very easy and he provided us with all the necessary info on the house and lots of tips about what to do in the area. We enjoyed our stay very much.
Even tho it poured during our entire stay, there was no better and cozier place to be than inside Michael's cabin. When it wasn't raining, it was beautiful and the house was perfect. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again!
Michael's Catskill retreat was exactly what we were hoping for! A quite & relaxing country retreat. We got in touch with Michael less then 24 hours before we wanted to stay at his airbnb and out of everyone we emailed on such short notice he was the first to respond. He was super responsive and always answered our questions right away! This is the type of place to go when you want to get away from it all, no internet, no cell reception, no cable tv. Instead we went on hikes, visited local dairy farms/maple syrup farms, and built a campfire in the front yard fire pit to ro smores ast.
Our dog was able to run around free on Michaels property however he did try to chase the morning deer that visited us and theres a road not to far away so be careful. Stark, our dog, got a tick while running around like a maniac so make sure and check your dog for them!
We suggest eating at The Heron, and grocery (email hidden) where we picked up Sat nights dinner, fresh caught trout from the local river. Everything was a bit far of a drive from the house but that's how we found The Dirie farm (licensed to sell Fresh Raw Dairy (website hidden) ). We got to meet Mr. Dirie and his fleet of cows plus a baby calf that was only 8 hours old! We would say it was out best upstate NYC retreat ever! Thanks Michael!
