location is okay, but environment is not that tasteful.especially d cleanliness, u can found some hair on your bed , in your bathroom on first day i checked in.
Please skip to the bottom for the worst part of it.
The directions that he has are a bit difficult to read, it is best to just go out of the north exit of Araiyakushi station and take a right. You will see conbinis and you will know you are going the right way. It`s best to rely on google maps in this case.
When we arrived at the apartment it was nice, a big 3 bedroom apartment all to ourselves. Some things were trouble at the start though. The lockbox for the keys had the numbers already spinned to the combination meaning anyone could just open them up. When we got in the kitchen and living areas were clean but the bathroom was messy and there were used towels just soaking on the ground even though there were bathmats available.
The trouble started when the other guests and Taro arrived. The other guest arrived and it was fine, but when Taro came in to meet him they were very loud gossiping about whatever even though he knew we were there and didn`t greet us. This only lasted about 15 minutes which wasn`t so bad. Then two girls came in who insisted on talking in an extreme loudness right outside our door. It is a Japanese style room so we cannot lock which feels unsafe and is paper thin. I opened the door to get my laundry which felt vulnerable with people I did not know and they were blocking my exit. They ended up stopping the loud talking around 1030pm but the girls who were in the Japanese tatami room next to us kept talking until past midnight. Again all of this is not so bad just very annoying, could be solved by a little bit of courtesy.
The worst part: Taro came by to clean the apartment he ended up taking our room key while we were gone. We would lock the key in the lock box every time we left for fear of losing it and spin the combination lock. We came back to the apartment around 7 at night and freaked out because the key was gone and AGAIN someone left the combination locks pretty much open, we thought it could be the old guests or new guests or thieves. We tried calling his number on pay phones e-mailing him asking help at the combini and finally asking the police (Koban) for help. In the end the option was to just wait out for Taro. We ended up going back to the apartment and luckily tried the other rooms lockbox and guess what, same key combination.. Taro came to us an hour later looking distressed but lied to us and put the blame on his other guests. He also told us that he changes the combination on the lockboxes but I don`t know how trustworthy he is.
The place is nice, you can definitely have a better time than us this was just our experience.
Simple, clean and great value. We really appreciated Taro's help in arranging our stay at the last minute. Thank you so much!
Our last night in Tokyo, we stayed in Room #2 (although the listing says #3, he moved us to room #2 last minute which was not a problem). The room was clean with sheets available for us. The walls separating room #1 and room #2 were traditional-style paper divides, but it was not a problem since our neighboring room was considerably quiet. The apartment had wifi which was an absolute must! There was an open shared kitchen space with a small fridge and microwave. The shared bathroom was really clean and it had a washing machine too! The view from the balcony was not bad either. I believe there was a park nearby, but unfortunately, I did not have time to check it out.
I never got the opportunity to meet Taro in person, but checking in was really easy, thanks to Taro's helpful guide he emailed us prior to our stay. The step by step directions getting to his apartment were thorough and detailed. Getting to the heart of the city took about a 25 minute commute (walking 7 mins + transferring stations 15 mins to Shinjuku Station), which was not bad.
Most of the stores immediate to the apartment closed rather early, but there was a bar near the Araiyakushimae station called Bar Loco that was AMAZING. I highly recommend the bar if you decide to make your stay here.
Overall, it was a pleasant stay especially considering the cost. I recommend this place for those traveling a budget.
Been there for a week. I definitely recommend Taro. He's very good host. Attentive, easy going and helpful. The house is in very good condition and value for anyone who're looking for quality budget stay. I'll surely be there again, if I get there.
This is my first time to use Airbnb, it is good experience to stay at apartment rather than the hotel. During stayed at Taro's apartment, everything is good such as the price, location and easy to find. This place is near by the park and many restaurant for breakfast and dinner. Taro is a nice guy he came to visit us and supported when we need his help.
If we come to Tokyo again, the first choice is Taro's apartment.
The appartement is convenient, clean, quiet and very well located (shibuya is one of the best station to visit tokyo)
You cannot cook (no microwave and no cooktop) but no need because food is cheap in tokyo.
Good value for the price. Thanks Taro !
Enjoyed the stay in Taro's place and the surrounding area, which I found it comfortable to walk daytime or night time. Taro is a nice guy and we had a few happy conversations. The house I stayed has big room comparing to the general hotel room size in Tokyo. Tatami and the beddings is fine with me. I quite like them. But maybe some others, especailly those who are used to sleep on soft mattress bed, may find it a bit hard to their back. The house, the rooms, toilet and the shower room are all neat and clean. With such a reasonable price, I would recommend Taro's apartment.
The home that we stayed in (apartment 211) was clean and tidy. Coming from Sydney and living quite close to Sydney, it was a little far away from the main Shinjuku station for us. We are used to being quite close to the 'hub' of things and the walk to the station and train trip to Shinjuku got a little draining when we were travelling long distances every day sightseeing with back packs etc. In saying that, this is not a reflection on the host, merely a comment to assist any who may be wanting to stay in Shinjuku like us but think this is still quite close. Sleeping on the floor with the thin 'doona' type mattresses was hard on my back, and not something I would be able to again, but again, I am born and bred in Sydney and am not used to sleeping on something so hard. The home has a full kitchen but you're not able to use the stove or the cupboards. The stove has been disconnected and the cupboard is locked. There is a fridge and a kettle which you are free to use. The home also has a washing machine which was handy.
Taro's place was a cozy place at suburb super close to the central places of Tokyo. The ambience was nice and most importantly the showers were nice and clean. Taro is very attentive and is super friendly; he showed us around Nakano and pointed out which restaurants were worth trying. There are 24 hour convenience stores right by the place so being hungry at night is not a problem. The only thing tricky was that the local train station did not have english on their maps so it was hard to figure out which ticket to pay for at first. All in all, I had a great experience and would definitely book this place again if I ever come back to Japan!
