we stayed at this extroardinary place for three nights in october. the cabin has amazing views of the desert and a beautiful porch you can enjoy them from. we spent the nights stargazing. it was very quiet and peaceful, a truly unique place. the cabin was a nice space, had a good kitchen, there was fresh coffee left for us and we had nice, clean towels and bedsheets. carolyn has an interesting collection of books we enjoyed exploring. carolyn was very helpful, gave us clear directions to the cabin and was easily available. this was a wonderful and memorable experience for us. we hope to return one day. highly recommended.
If you're fortunate enough to find Paperhaus available to book, you should go for it!
We've just had a fantastic weekend at Carolyn's place and I couldn't recommend it more highly. The photos do give a very accurate sense of the place, but of course there's a certain magic in the air that can't be depicted in a photo. It's also hard to know how much privacy a place offers until you get there. Of the several places in the Joshua Tree area we've stayed at, Paperhaus has one of the very best locations. Close enough to town that you can run in for a bite or the national park, but just far enough out to really get some relaxing solitude.
We found Carolyn to be a warm and welcoming host - all correspondance was friendly and super-prompt.
Our thanks to Carolyn - can't wait to visit again!
What a place!! The location, openness, peace, and nature are something I came home wanting more of.. We will be back!
Absolutely stunning. The cabin. The area. All of it. Truly away from it all...and amazing. And truly a home from home thanks to the very best of hosts... Will DEFINITELY be back (and stay longer next time)! Highest possible recommendation.
This is a perfect place to stay if you want to be in Joshua Tree. Carolyn sends a very detailed email on directions to the house (do not use other ones as you will be going on roads that are not as maintained) as well as lovely suggestions on restaurants (The Country Kitchen is amazing). The house is set by itself and at night you can see a ton of stars. This is the perfect place to go and get away from noise and distractions. Everything about the cabin is lovely!
Another great stay at the Paperhaus! We can't get enough of Joshua Tree and staying here completes the perfect getaway.
We had it all, desert storm, flash flood...but the cabin reconciled us with everything.
Thanks Carolyn, to your patiently communication. You were very nice & helpful...
Your cabin is magic, we love the LA Vintage Style in the middle of nowhere!
Be back soon!!
Peaceful, restorative, quiet, and beautiful. We stargazed, we watched incredible sunsets while sipping cold beers, and BBQ'd every night. This is our favorite Joshua Tree place and we go out to the desert often. If you need a break from the city-- this is the place.
Amazing desert experience. Exactly what we were after. Carolyn was great to deal with and her cabin was super comfortable and clean.
We had an amazing stay at Paperhaus! We arrived after dark, but thanks to Carolyn's impeccably detailed directions we were able to find the cabin with ease. It was so quiet and relaxing, a really unique experience. The cabin was cozy and clean, perfectly simple, and the featherbed was amazing. Sitting on the porch in the late afternoon after a day spent exploring the park was easily my favorite part. We hope to be back someday soon! Thank you Carolyn for creating such a lovely retreat.
Over the summer, I spent a weekend at Carolyn's cabin in Joshua Tree. I had never been to the desert before, and it was beautiful (in that stark, striking desert way) and so peaceful. The cabin is cozy and stylishly decorated. It's so convenient to have a fully functioning kitchen, and even though it was over 100 degrees, the cooling system kept the house at a pleasant temperature. The living room has two comfortable couches, and the writing nook is perfect. My first day there, I got up early to sit outside in the yard and watch the sun rise. It was my favorite part of the trip, and the morning light inspired some of my best writing of the weekend. At night, it's a short drive to Pappy and Harriet's, where you can get dinner and see some live music. All in all, it's a perfect getaway from LA (or wherever you might be).
