Peaceful, restorative, quiet, and beautiful. We stargazed, we watched incredible sunsets while sipping cold beers, and BBQ'd every night. This is our favorite Joshua Tree place and we go out to the desert often. If you need a break from the city-- this is the place.
Amazing desert experience. Exactly what we were after. Carolyn was great to deal with and her cabin was super comfortable and clean.
We had an amazing stay at Paperhaus! We arrived after dark, but thanks to Carolyn's impeccably detailed directions we were able to find the cabin with ease. It was so quiet and relaxing, a really unique experience. The cabin was cozy and clean, perfectly simple, and the featherbed was amazing. Sitting on the porch in the late afternoon after a day spent exploring the park was easily my favorite part. We hope to be back someday soon! Thank you Carolyn for creating such a lovely retreat.
My fiance and I stayed in Carolyn's Paperhaus Cabin over the Memorial Day weekend. We had a great time, the communication was good and the cabin was beautiful. The peace and quiet away from the city was amazing. I would definitely recommend staying here and can't wait to go back.
This was my first trip to the desert. A truly remarkable experience! The desert landscape is otherworldly: beautiful and raw and vast! Paperhaus was everything I was hoping for, and more. Rustic, secluded, roaring fireplace, stunning sunset views! Close enough to town so you can easily get supplies. I will absolutely, positively be back! Thank you Carolyn!
We had such a fantastic weekend at the Paperhaus. The home itself is lovely and full of vintage charm, but were especially blown away by the outdoor space -- there is nothing quite like watching a sunset from a private backyard that feels like it's a million miles away from the rest of the world. Carolyn has great style, we loved all of the collections of desert treasures throughout the property, and the no-TV living room was great for relaxing in the evenings with a book.
We can't wait to return to Joshua Tree. Carolyn is a wonderful host and we would absolutely stay at her place again!
So excited to get to go back for a longer stay! Private and cozy. Kitchen was adorable with a well stocked spice rack, GORGEOUS desert views out of the many windows and a lovely wood stove. Love.
We had an amazing time at the Paperhaus! A great location that is close enough to town for restaurants or groceries and visits to the park. And it's secluded enough that you feel like you're in your own world.
We enjoyed our stay in the desert at Paperhaus. Carolyn kept in touch and gave us great directions that helped us find this somewhat remote spot. Very peaceful and relaxing to come back to after exploring the Joshua Tree National Park. We cooked in much of the time so appreciated the equipped kitchen. Would visit again but if you are sensitive to light early in the morning, check to see if the window treatments are done--they weren't yet when we stayed!
Lovely cabin, both stylish and functional. The cabin is a good 20 minutes away from the main highway, providing for one of its best features: isolation and complete silence (apart from the cooing of doves). We hope to come back soon.
Over the summer, I spent a weekend at Carolyn's cabin in Joshua Tree. I had never been to the desert before, and it was beautiful (in that stark, striking desert way) and so peaceful. The cabin is cozy and stylishly decorated. It's so convenient to have a fully functioning kitchen, and even though it was over 100 degrees, the cooling system kept the house at a pleasant temperature. The living room has two comfortable couches, and the writing nook is perfect. My first day there, I got up early to sit outside in the yard and watch the sun rise. It was my favorite part of the trip, and the morning light inspired some of my best writing of the weekend. At night, it's a short drive to Pappy and Harriet's, where you can get dinner and see some live music. All in all, it's a perfect getaway from LA (or wherever you might be).
