I do not recall any request to tip the maid and I had almost no communication from matt, as he was out of the country and his manager provides the wrong WhatsApp number. Matt asked me to pay for one day via Airbnb and 3 days directly with cash to save him on the fees. I appreciate the airport transfer but never saw Matt nor his housekeeper to thank them. At the same time I was asked to pay for a part of the stove that broke from normal wear and tear and I declined. I left 30000 idr to pay for the 2 dishes we broke but clearly told the house manager on two occasions and left a note saying we wouldn't pay for something that broke from wear and tear and not thru any negligence of our own. As for tipping the maid, in my 2 months in Indonesia and speaking to many people tipping is not at all common. I asked for no additional service from the maid and believed that her service was included in the price per night. In the future I will decline to stay with hosts who suggest we go out of Airbnb policy to pay for bookings.
