Hi, I am a Managing Director of a Oku Japan. My company specialises in off-the-beaten-track in Japan.
We really enjoyed the Great Town-house near Kyoto station (about 20 min walk). The Town House was the biggest place we stayed at on our travels through Japan, and the only place that provided an iron. It was our first time coming to Japan and Kyoto was one of our favorite cities. It was very comfortable for two people and can accommodate four with room to spare.
Matt's house is convenient with traffic and convenient store. We take bus to and fm the city center everyday. Bus frequency is good and running late until after 22:00. The train to Osaka is cross the bridge app 10min walk - it's really an surprising delight when we depart Kyoto for Osaka. All facilities are good, water hot. Most of all, a real feel to stay like local. Matt's feedback is quick and very considerate. Thank u!
As described in profile. Bikes a real bonus for Kyoto. Be careful where you park them as they may get impounded if not parked in designated bike areas in city!
We had a wonderful experience in this house.
I think it is a bit too small for 5 people but perfect for 4.
The house is clean, equipment in the kitchen is good.
It's a bit far from the city center but transportation such as buses and subways are convenient even for shrines. You can easily eat in restaurants 5-10 min by foot, and supermarket 5 min.
The space is small and cozy, sufficient for a lone traveler. As I arrived Kyoto at night, the area can get pretty dark. Matt was uncontactable on my first night when I arrived, so I had difficulty looking for the keys in the dark, alone, and in 2 degrees. Tomoyo took an average of 2 days to reply my emails, so if you need any help urgently, it would be good to call her. However, according to her, she's only contactable from 9am to 6pm, Mondays to Fridays. I had a terrible first night in Kyoto, but the subsequent days got better. Strong advise: Don't book a night flight.
Nice and clean studio appartment, small but perfect for a solo traveller. Good location to explore Kyoto !
We had a very pleasant stay. The place is very convinient
and the small zen garden is lovely. Nice view for the breakfast.
Please is not central but bicycle is the best way to move
around, at least to reach the central station, from where you
can go anywhere.
WIFI was very much appreciated!
We had a good stay at Matt's place. Location seems set in a working-class part of Kyoto. Moderately accessible, with access to 2 different trainlines, with a 10 minute walk to the nearest train station. Convenience and food stalls were very nearby. Communications with Matt and his assistant were prompt and excellent.
Only negative comments would be that the kitchen, toilet and bathroom areas were not heated. Given that we unfortunately visited in winter, it presented a problem for us especially in the mornings and nights.
Other than the above, its a great place, and spacious enough for a group. Great place to use as a base to explore Kyoto and the surrounding areas.
This is a great little traditional two storey house in a quiet area walking distance from Kyoto station. The house is easy access to the buses and subways, as well as sights and convenience stores, whilst maintaining a quiet nights sleep. A great base for seeing the city. The house itself is comfortable and has all the mod-cons and we would highly recommend this place.
Not only was Matt a great guest, he also promised to share some rain with us from England. Well, it worked like a charm, and the Northern California drought was broken within a few days. Cannot thank Matt enough!!
La casa quedo en perfecto (website hidden) reservo otros comentarios.
Matt was a very pleasant guest. I just saw him the last days because i
wasn´t in town but my flatmates liked him immediately!
I think Matt is a very open-minded and educated person and it´s cool that he is travelling and hosting by Airbnb. I am sorry that your meetings didn´t give you enough time to see our beautiful Luzern again:)
If i ever come to Kyoto i would use Matts apartment!
Matt was a great guest, he was pretty busy in his trip but really respectful, easy going and godo to be around with. He is also an AirBnB host and we spoke briefly about our experiences. Nice chap.
Matt was super easy to host as he was not around much, but I enjoyed our conversations when our paths crossed. He was courteous, self-sufficient and cleaned up after himself. What more could a host ask for??
Matt is a wonderful person and one of the most interesting travelers who will meet. His knowledge of just about anything around the world is immense and he's happy to share it on demand. He's also very respectful, open and honest and I am very happy to recommend him as a guest!
