I am a self-employed architect working from home.
A lovely home and great private addition for guests with separate entrance, facilities and garden facing room. Felt right at home and had wonderful conversation with Bruce. He's a delight and most helpful letting me store my luggage after check out and even waiting curbside with me for my car service. My experience is what I love about traveling and airbnb -- getting to know great people and staying in a real neighborhood. Couldn't have asked for more and will definitely be back!
The Hobart Garden Studio was well located in terms of walking to the City & the Harbour (20 min). The property itself was a wonderful piece of heritage & nicely decorated, set in private, landscaped grounds. The room had everything, was private & had a separate access. The host provided a lovely breakfast each morning & was good company. Bruce was happy to share his knowledge on things to do & places to go which we found invaluable. Great value, great room, great location & great host.
Bruce was a fine host and provides a clean, light and airy unit with a separate entrance for his guests.
He was eager to help with information on Hobart and is an excellent conversationalist.
Bruce provides an excellent continent breakfast but please save a little of the croissant for his dog.
I would stay here again on any future visit to Hobart.
Bruce is a great host. We enjoyed our breakfast and daily chat.
We were pleased to keep Bruce fit walking to Battery Point daily to secure our breakfast croissants!
The style of accommodation is self contained with private access and this suited us well.
We would definitely return and recommend it to others.
Bruce is a wonderful host. The garden is lush and beautiful, and the bedroom/sitting rooms have very good light. Bruce usually joined us for coffee in the morning, and it was nice to hear his perspective of Hobart. He provides an assortment of brochures, and is happy to provide local touring information. I highly recommend the Hobart Garden Studio; you won't be disappointed.
Bruce is one of the most wonderful & welcoming hosts i've ever met! Having breakfast together (also Charlie & Xander) is the best start of the day. Place is absolutely beautiful as shown in the pics & very private. Thanks again for giving me such a good & memorable time during my stay in Hobart, i already miss Charlie & Xander so much :) would definitely recommend Bruce's place if anyone is still hesitating!!
Wow! What a nice place and what a wonderful and friendly host is Bruce! The location is better than we thought. All the sightseeing and interesting things are walkable. Bruce has many good ideas what to do in and around Hobart. Musea, dinner, activities. The garden room is attached but separated from the main house. The bed is super and all is very clean.
Thank you so much Bruce! We enjoyed being your guests!
Response from Bruce:
Thanks Sofie and Leen,
Really pleased you enjoyed the Overland Track and Mona. I hope you are having a great time in Sydney!
We loved staying at Bruce's and would definitely stay again! The room was gorgeous - lovely and light and private. Bruce was very welcoming and helpful, giving us some excellent tips on what to see in Hobart and how to get around. Plus he prepared a delicious breakfast for us! Absolutely stay in the garden studio if you get the chance. Thank you Bruce :)
This was my first Airbnb experience in Australia and it will be a hard act to follow. In addition to excellent accommodation, a healthy breakfast and good conversation Bruce was most helpful with local tourist advice. My main reason for visiting Tasmania was to do the 4 day Maria Island Walk and he advised me on where to fit in some training hikes. His house is ideally situated less than 1 min from the Rivulet Walk which leads past the Female Factory and up to the Cascade Factory. This is a gentle stroll suitable for everyone. Behind the Cascade Factory (where meals and beer tastings are on offer) there is a well signposted track that climbs up through the bush. It takes about 45-60 mins to reach a clearing the site of the old Farm Road. This has another marked track - the Myrtle Gully Track -which is a good steep climb another 45-60 mins one way that leads to Junction Cottage. This is the meeting point for several other tracks and mountain bike trails. So Bruce is ideally situated for a couple of days pre-hike training. There are even more in the vicinity that I have not tried.
We are a couple in our 60's and were visiting Hobart for the first time, primarily to see MONA. We struck gold staying with Bruce in his beautiful home. He has given considerable thought to his guests’ needs, offering a clean, quiet, relaxed and elegant set up that works.
Both visitor and host enjoy privacy, yet Bruce was still within easy reach for enquiries and needs. We enjoyed our delicious, fresh breaksfasts, and his good company, while planning our day. He knows Hobart well, and understood our interests, offering practical advice and interesting information.
The location is conveniently close to the CBD, so if you enjoy exercise you can walk to and from this elevated and picturesque position in west Hobart. We found the taxies we needed were prompt and very reasonably priced. Hobart taxi system is excellent. One driver informed us that when Hobart drivers are called out, they are not told the destination of their prospective passengers, so short runs are not shunned.
If you enjoy walking for exercise Bruce will direct you down to the Derwent Rivulet and from there you can go up the steep track through bushy parkland to the suburb well above Bruce’s place. Returning back down the hillside to our accommodation gave us interesting vistas and the time to take in the character of the original and well preserved houses of the area.
Last but far from least are two added pleasures, Bruce’s lovely quiet garden, and his sweet, noble hound Xanda. Thank you Bruce for lovely stay – we’ll be back!
