The apt was large and exactly as seen in the photos with a bedroom at the back and one in the front. The area was fine, close to the subway, and we felt fairly safe. The apt was not cleaned very well - we had to scrub the shower before using. We could not get the TV to work nor did the electric kettle work.
Communication with the host was not good. We were met by someone else who let us into the apt and immediately left before we even realized it. We had a minor issue we wanted to raise and texted the hosts within 30 mins of arriving. Had they responded, we would have had no issue whatsoever, but it took half a dozen messages and contact with Airbnb before they replied several days later. Ignoring our messages was frustrating and distracted from our holiday. (Airbnb on the other hand, was amazingly good).
Another problem that is beyond the host's control but did affect our enjoyment of the flat was the fact the apt and building reeked of dope. It was coming in through the venting system from another apartment(s) and was quite strong and unpleasant.
The apartment is very large and comfortable. The area felt safe and lively.
Check is was a bit of an issue. I contacted the host four hours before to let them know I was setting out from DC, then again one hour prior to arriving at the property. yet, no one was there and we had to sit on the staircase for 30 minutes waiting for the keys to arrive.
We had a small issue with some water leaking in the bathroom but that was promptly repaired.
Overall, it was a good and pleasant stay. I recommend it.
The host was quick to respond and very easy to reach. The place we stayed at was clean and fully functional for all our needs. If anyone needs early check in please be sure to tell the host first and remind them ahead of time. No complaints, no problems, and a definite recommendation for everyone!
House was very nice and clean, plenty of room for everyone. Harlem was fine, always very entertaining and interesting walking down the street. The locals were very friendly though. Close to subway and easy to navigate to. Key transfer was without issue. Thank you very much Justine for having us!
Penthouse? What penthouse?
There were 8 of us ( 4 adults and 4 kids), we had a really hard time to fit in and actually sleep at night in this very tiny apartment. (The owner knew there would be 8 of us)
The apartment was dirty, the pillows on the couch felt really old and dusty, not mentioning the smelly sheets on beds. In addition, the furniture felt like it could break any minute, towels weren't clean either. The cracks on ceilings just made everything worse.
This is a beautiful place with lots of room in a lovely neighbourhood. Key handover was easy and fast. We have only good things to say about it and will definitely recommend it to our friends and stay here again if we're ever in New York.
We really enjoyed our stay at the appartment and would come back again any time. There are a looot good Restaurants and shops (such as Starbucks, CVS, H&M, DSW and and and...) around the appartment and things you can do. There is a bar right under the appartment building were my parents went to watch Soccer.
People in NY were shocked when we saif we are staying in Harlem but they were thinking about the bad spots in Harlem. This place is actually pretty safe. I never felt in danger or so... there are even security cameras in the entrance hall.
The appartment itself was clean and had all we had. There arew towels, sheets, Wi-Fi, ACs and a coffee machine (yes I need that!!). I read in some other comments that there weren't enough towels or it wasn't clean.. but I can not confirm that. We had enough towels and it was really clean. When we arrived you could smell the typical smell of cleaning supplies.
We were 4 People and had enough space... also we could have added more space to sleep if we would have used the Futon but we didn't need it.
The Subway Station is really close... not even one minute to walk. Or if you Need a different subway train it's just a few stops by bus. You can be at Times Square or Downtown in just a few minutes.
If you need help, you will get help. I asked Justine several questions and she answered always withing a few minutes. Also there is a guy living in one of the apparments of the building who can always help you. He's really nice and will always greet you if he sees you. We never felt that there is nobody to help us out.
So I really recommend Justines appartment ;) ;) enjoy your stay and the City!!
Our stay at Daniel N Justine's Harlem Brownstone was absolutely wonderful! This space was beautiful, cozy, clean and exactly as pictured. Communication was great and so the key exchange was seamless. All the living essentials were available. Quick and convenient $25 cab ride to midtown. Downstairs neighbors were kind and offered a lot of good tips on places to check out in the neighborhood. Thank you for our stay, we had a blast! :)
The stay went well and everything went well.
