My sculptures in stone you will find in the apartment
We had a great 4 days and 3 nights at Jans apartment. Both the area and apartment were quiet and spacious, with a great walk along a canal which gets you into the Jordaan. Plenty of breakfast goodies to start your day well. This is a home from home experience. So dont rent a room in a hotel. Rent from Jan!
If you are there for a few days then a visit to Delft would be a great experience. An hour on the train and you are in a beautiful town without the mob. Go.
Warm, modern and comfortable apartment in a quiet and central area. Bed comfortable. Breakfast provisions provided. Appreciated the use of the heavy old bike but it took some getting used to no handbrakes (back pedal to break)! No gears either but not needed in Amsterdam. Felt at home and happy to return.
I had a wonderful time in Amsterdam and staying at Jan's flat. It was lovely to spend my time in this flat and Jan is a really nice man. The flat is spacious and 10mn far from the city center. The area is quite and pleasant as well. Strongly recommended. Thank you Jan !
Jan's place is very tidy, clean and artistic. I lived in a room besides the canal and the view is good. Jan is very nice and provided me lots of information about travelling in A'dam. I had a very nice time in this place!
Fantastic Host, even more fantastic place! What can I say? Clean, tidy, artistically decorated, conveniently located -- everything just felt right... I would want to live there if I can. Highly recommended!
The stay at Jan's couldn't have been better. I recommend his apartment to anyone visiting Amsterdam. It is my first choice next time I'm in town.
I had a very nice stay at Jan's place.
The appartment is spacious and cozy, not too far from the city center. Jan was welcoming and discrete and very kind to fill up the fridge with good ham and cheese!
Great experience, thank you.
I was traveling solo in Amsterdam and wanted an affordable, pleasant, "local" stay in an area that felt safe; this apartment fit the bill. Out your bedroom window you may wake to the sound of cranes or ducks in the morning (and to be clear, the ground-floor bedroom windows open directly on the sidewalk and end of the small street—no buffer of a lawn etc.—but if you're a city sleeper, the occasional noise of cars or passersby to punctuate the silence may not startle you). Beyond the patio and communal green space out back, another canal and a small promenade may beckon you for a stroll late in the evening. There's also a coffee machine, an electric pitcher to boil water for tea, and a mokapot (on top of the cheese, bread, and deli meats included for breakfast) in the kitchen...maps and guidebooks for your perusal in the dining room...and Jan occasionally pops by in the morning to see how you're doing (he stays next door).
From the apartment you can walk to, say, the Anne Frank House on Prinsengracht in 15–20 minutes (possibly less, if you don't keep stopping to look at menus and into restaurant windows in the Jordaan like I did), and every other place from Vondelpark and Museumplein to the Dutch Resistance Museum and Magere Brug to De Pijp is very walkable (and there's lots to see along any route you choose; I can't really give a time estimate because I kept stopping and looking and detouring!). I made like another reviewer and walked from and to the train station my first and last days, about 30 minutes, but the tram stops are also easily accessible, as other reviewers have said.
On my last full day I borrowed one of Jan's bikes and braved peripheral A'dam traffic to pedal to Ouderkerk aan de Amstel and back, and *that* was an unforgettable and very do-able experience from this location (beyond city limits you're biking past scenery that inspired Rembrandt!). Also, if you're wondering whether the bike will fit you, I'm 5'3"/160 cm and at the lowest setting for the seat had to reach a bit for the pedals, but I made the the roughly 26 km round trip just fine.
When you consider that the mostly residential neighborhood feels pretty quiet and safe and that a light breakfast and bike use are included in the fee, and that nearby stays in the Jordaan can go for nearly twice as much or more, Jan's place would be tough to beat in terms of value.
Nice B&B. Very friendly host. Good location. It was great to use the bike and explore the city. Love to return !
Awesome apartment!!:) Jan wasn't there during my stay(2 nights) but he prearranged everything for me. 1.He asked his neighbor to open the door for me and show me how to use the equipment inside. 2. The fridge is well filled. I felt like at home.3.Clean and spacious room.4.20min walking distance to central station,3min walk to tram 10 station on the bridge. 5.Quite environment and good views outside. Strongly recommended.
