Jim and I love living in our home on 12 wooded acres about 12 miles south of Ashland, in the Siskiyous. Our property is a historical landmark and was a Stagecoach stop in the 1700s. We still find parts of old foundations and other interesting items from the past, although everything is left in place for historical significance. Our spring (the old Dollarhide spring) is where the horses were watered on their way over the Siskiyou Pass.
Our home is at 3500' with a view of the Cascades across the valley. Looking to the east, you can see 10-15 miles without any homes in sight. We are also about 7 miles from the Mt. Ashland Ski Park.
Sometimes we have unannounced visitors: bears, deer, rabbits, wild turkeys, bobcats, fox, numerous birds and our neighbor has even seen a cougar (very rare).
We enjoy a positive lifestyle, with a mix of spirituality. We don't really belong to any group, but the time we spend up here on the mountain is conducive to walks, rest and bike riding (It's a great coast down to town or wherever!). There are several great rides including up to Mt. Ashland or down to Ashland.
We are about 1.5 miles to Callahan’s Inn and restaurant (very nice).
We have a black lab mix, Leland, who is a gentleman, and loves making new friends (people AND dogs). Please let us know if you will be bringing a dog. We do not have a fence.
Our home is about 1750 sq ft, and usually heated with a wood stove (notification for those with sensitivity). We also have a heat pump and AC. The bedroom has a double bed and ½ of the closet space with an electric fireplace heater. The bathroom is private with a shower and a space heater.
Regarding weather: Since we are at 3500’, we get snow off and on in late fall to spring. If you have concerns about our local weather, you can give us a call, and we’ll let you know about current conditions. Our driveway is about 200 yards, and at times can be difficult to drive up. We can come down in the 4x4 and pick you up at the bottom, or you can walk up.
Although we are new to airbnb, we have traveled a great deal, our most memorable trip was to India where we stayed in an ashram in southern India.
We’re both friendly and welcoming. Because of where we live, we have a history of people who have lost their way up here, and we've offered our home or helped with directions.
We love fly fishing on the Rogue River, Butte Creek and others. If you're here late spring to fall, you can hop in the car with us and go fly fishing, or hike along the river… Beautiful!
We have varied and eclectic musical tastes, but metal isn't really our thing.
We LOVED watching Breaking Bad, and hope we can find something to fill in, now that it’s over.
Some of our guests up here want to be quiet and solitary. Others want to visit. Just let us know what you prefer. Since we’re 12 miles from Ashland, you may wish to have a continental breakfast or dinner up here. Please let us know when you book if you would like home meals and if you have any dietary requirements. Just let us know what you'd prefer.... No problem!
We do have wireless internet – but it is a little bit slow because we have satellite ‘net. We get about 4-5 bars on our cell.
Looking forward to meeting you!
