Okay, so there's a couple of things about living at Emily's place: First of all, it's was a very pleasant experience overall. Emily is an extremely nice and helpful person. She gave me all kinds of advice on how to move around in the city, had heaps of maps in the room, and actually lend me her bus pass for my first day. The room is great, you get what you see in the pictures. Pretty comfortable bed, too. She even let me move around the furniture, because there's only one outlet in the room (there is an extension cord, so you can get power from the adjacent room), and I wanted the table to be there. So that was all very good!! Now, there's two downsides to this apartment: a) No wireless. b) The area is really, really, really shady. I was racially insulted on my way to the apartment, and there was a shooting mere 20 yards away from me on my way from the apartment (it's about a 15 minute walk from the nearest metro station). If any of this is a deadbreaker for you (I might just have been unlucky what with the shooting etc), don't go here. But, you're gonna miss out on a nice host and on a LOT of value for your money.
Emily was a very friendly host, and the room was well worth its price. The apartment has a great location near a Metro, a grocery store, and a CVS. The futon was more comfortable than it looked, and the room had a wonderful, sleep-inducing fan. No Internet access was actually refreshing for a few days.
PERFECT! I loved staying here. I came to DC for a St. Vincent concert and did some site seeing as well. The location was exactly what I needed. I parked my car outside her apartment and never used it until I left DC. The room was warm and comfy. Stay here!
Oh! And she also provides you (email hidden) to DC—another plus in this vegetarian's book. I will definitely stay here again when I come to DC.
Emily's place is in an up-and-coming neighborhood and everything you need is walking distance -- casual eating, organic grocery, CVS, independent coffee shop. The futon is cosy for two, but quite comfortable, and the radiator kept us warm and dry during miserable weather. The room is in the back of the building and quiet.
Emily is quite kind, and was very accomodating about meeting us at the Metro station to hand off the key. We would stay there again.
Emily is a very good and helpful host. Room is clean and wide. A very good option if you visit Washington.
The room and location is described accurately. Emily is an inviting, helpful host. I would stay there again if I go back to DC. The price ($43 per night) fantastic... the place feels like a clean, quite hostel except more private since you get your own room. The bed was a futon with a big crease in it... so a little lumpy. It didn't bother me, but some folks might object.
Emily was a friendly host, the room was quite spacious, and all the facilities were very clean. Emily lives a little out of the downtown area, but is easily (and cheaply) accessible via bus and metro. The only negative is the lack of any TV and more importantly internet at the premises. Otherwise our stay was fine.
Emily's apartment was very nice and confortable. Emily gave us good informations about what to do in the city. We wish we had more time there!
Emily was a very kind, gracious host. She offered me bread upon arrival and had all kinds of information about DC. The room is a bit far out of town, so be prepared to bus and train into the centre, but I had a very comfortables night - a perfect stopover.
It was wonderful having Emily stay here. She told me all about raising chickens, which is something I would love to do some day. She was quiet and very neat and clean.
Emily was communicative and conscientious.
Emily was a great guest! Very kind, and a clear communicator. She was very neat as well, which is always appreciated. We didn't overlap much in the house due to schedules but she is welcome to return any time!
Emily was a great guest - very quiet, polite, and clean. We enjoyed having her stay with us!
Since I've been traveling, I haven't met Emily in person, but I was told that she's been very kind, clean and responsible. Our e-mail connetion had been easy and effective.
Emily is sweet, thoughtful, kind and low maintenance. Very reliable and will go out of her way to help you. And she makes great chocolate.
As others have mentioned Emily is very knowledgeable about the DC area. The room is a clean and comfortable space. Moreover, Emily offers tasty treats! :D For the price and Emily's wonderful hosting, this is an excellent place to stay.
