We loved our stay in Union Bridge! David and Donna had very simple and accurate communication beforehand, clear instructions in the house manual, and positive and polite interaction while we were there. The apartment was stocked with everything you'd need (ample parking, extra towels, pillows, sheets, and dishes, plus playing cards, books, cable, and coffee as a bonus), the beds and couch comfortably accommodated 4, and there was enough hot water for all 4 girls to get ready for a wedding. Impressive! This is a great alternative to a hotel for anyone attending a wedding at Morningside Inn. 15 minutes away from that venue, more affordable if you have a group, and way more space than you'd get in a hotel. Union Bridge is a beautiful area of MD, and a great getaway for a quiet, countryside vacation.
Very limited but positive interaction with the host.
The apartment is large, bedroom very nice.
It is located in Johnsville, not Union Bridge.
Definitely rural BUT 18 wheelers and dump trucks use the road and sleeping is a challenge.
We do live on a busy road, but the apartment is in the rear of the house.
Rich and I enjoyed the quaint and cozy apartment's atmosphere very much. The main selling points were the "to die for" comfortable King Sized bed and the spacious studio flat type living room and full kitchen. Hadn't seen beds that high off the ground since my nana was alive in Connecticut.
Thank you for a lovely stay!

The apartment was so large!! It was really lovely and the bed was the most comfortable bed I've slept in in a really long time! There is everything you need and all the space you could possibly want. It is out in the country, so I had to drive about 15-20 minutes to get some groceries or go to a restaurant but it's in a beautiful area. David was flexible and communicative with me- all was great!
My husband and I really enjoyed staying at David's apartment. The place was larger than I expected & very clean and comfortable. We ended up driving to Harper's Ferry for the day, which was not a bad drive at all & we had a lovely weekend for it. Also, my husband was particularly excited about the auction that takes place behind the apartment (website hidden). Thanks again, we had a lovely visit!
My husband and I really enjoyed the apartment! It's very spacious but feels cozy, has a great kitchen for cooking, and the bed is out of this world. We were really comfortable. It's easy to find and is in a really good area for exploring - we did trips to Gettysburg and Frederick, which I'd highly recommend. If you enjoy driving through countryside, you'll love the area. For getting an entire place to yourself, this is a great value. David is such a great host - we brought food to cook for dinner and forgot salt and pepper, and he brought them up for us!
We had a lovely stay in this historic house. The apartment was very spacious and the kitchen was well equipped. We found the accommodation very clean and tidy.
The house is located in a beautiful rural setting. It's close to many points of historical interest (Gettysburg for example). The host advised us about shopping at the supermarket in Woodsboro which is only about ten minutes drive away (via a very attractive drive!)
The listing about the apartment was very accurate except that the location is in Johnsville, MD, not Union Bridge. Union Bridge is in Carrol County about 4 miles away. We did not see much of David, but he was readily available when we needed him. He made us feel completely welcome and was very accommodating for our very late-night arrival which we really appreciated.
The apartment is large, beautiful, and well appointed with comfortable furniture and appropriate decorations. David has done a beautiful job with restoration of the apartment in this very old, historic building. The natural-finished old wood floors are beautiful. The whole place has a homey feeling that makes you want to sit down with a good glass of wine and relax.
The location is rural with dairy farms all around the area. The local side roads are narrow and winding with low traffic volume and are perfect for walks in the country, running, bicycling.
The kitchen is clean and very well appointed with all that one would need to cook for themselves.
The main bedroom is large with a huge, high, luxurious, king-size, poster bed that envelopes one in softness. The second bedroom is very cozy and warm feeling with a very comfortable futon bed. My daughter fell in love with her room and didn't want to leave. Both bedrooms are furnished with nice antiques.
The bathroom is clean with a nice sink and a tub/shower combination.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed staying at this old, historic building that used to house the town's General store (yes, the classic general store that comes to mind when the term is used.)
One should know that there are no restaurants in Johnsville and the closest one is about 8-miles away. The big grocery stores are about 13 to 16 miles away in Walkersville, Frederick, and Westminster. The off-the-beaten-track, rural location is wonderful, but that is also why the nicely appointed kitchen is so nice to have.
David and Donna were wonderful hosts. The accommodations were as advertised. Very spacious and clean, peaceful, charming. Easy check in and check out. Conveniently located for our needs.
Very nice and thoughtful guests!
David and Donna were lovely guests. I can't say enough about them except that I can't recommend them enough. They are clean, considerate, down to Earth, good people. I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them and would love to see them again someday.
This home is an American treasure! The owners took me back in time with all the amenities of the 21st Century. This is a perfectly restored 150 year old road house with access to destinations all the East Coast. My stay made me feel wrapped in hospitality and conviviality as we chatted and enjoyed all the history the region has to offer, from Washington DC to New York to Baltimore. I am so thankful for the opportunity to spend time with these marvelous hosts in "Their Old House"! Thank you!
Quiet, spacious and beautifully decorated, with a private entrance in this pre Civil War homestead on park like settings. I would recommend this apartment to anyone staying in the area. The homeowners will happily suggest eateries and attractions. Hit some auctions while you're there!
