This was a terrific experience! Mark was gracious and made us feel welcome. The home is fantastic and well appointed. The antique hardwood floors, along with the furniture made for the romantic setting we needed. Walking distance to some nice restaurants and the grocery store.
We stayed at the Fennville House with 2 other friends for my husband's birthday snowboarding trip. The house is beautiful - just like the pictures - and in a great location if you're planning to go to Bittersweet Ski Resort. It's also very close to the small downtown area which is great for checking out the restaurants. Mark was also a great host - very responsive and checked in on us to make sure we made it/were doing OK. I'd definitely recommend!
The Fennville house experience was simply wonderful. The house is exactly as shown and is a great way to step back in time and enjoy living with modern conveniences, yet with an old world feel. Mark left us beer in the fridge from a local brewery and a bottle of wine from a local vineyard...lovely touch! The extra info on local restaurants was very helpful and we LOVED dining at Salt of the Earth! This is not the place to stay if you want the Ritz Carlton experience, but it is clean, well stocked with comfortable conveniences and delightfully charming. The house is conveniently located to local boutique shopping in Saugatuck and Douglass and we also took a day and went to Grand Rapids which was less than an hour. Thanks Mark - you are a wonderful host!
Our stay was fantastic. Mark was extremely responsive and helpful. It was our first time using Airbnb, and if all hosts are like Mark, it won't be our last. The house was exactly as described, and the neighborhood was nice and quiet but a short walk to a nice downtown where we had some fantastic meals (Salt of the Earth) and met a lot of great people out for drinks (Stevens Hotel). The Fennville House location was also very convenient for trips into Saugatuck and Douglas.
Thanks Rob! Stevens Hotel is often overlooked in Fennville. They have the best pizza in town and if you need wholesale liquor its the only place.
Though I didn't meet Mark face to face he was quite amiable and helpful in all of our exchanges. His home is beautiful and perhaps more charming in person. Two of my friends and I rented the home for a girls' weekend away from the city and we took full advantage of the facilities -- we baked, we had a campfire, and we drank while watching Finding Nemo -- and we all agreed we'd keep this house in the back of our minds for future city escapes.
Staying at Mark's home in Fennville was a pleasure. Everything was set up perfectly, and we couldn't have asked for a better home away from home.
Mark was responsive to any questions we had an overall the experience was very smooth. Highly recommended if you are planning on staying anywhere in the area!
Thanks Matthew! The next time your back in Michigan let us know.
mark was super responsive and flexible regarding my trip. the home was roomy and cozy and was so close to downtown fennville! we enjoyed having such a cozy home to head to after vineyard tours and cider tastings!
The Fennville House was a great first experience on AirBnB. The pictures don't do justice to how nice the home is. The rooms were spacious and the beds were very comfortable. My wife took full advantage of the claw foot tub both nights we were there and loved every minute of it.
Mark was easy to reach beforehand and answered any questions we had quickly. The house manual was easy to follow and offered lots of great suggestions of things to do in the area and there were several brochures left by other guests that made it easy to explore the Saugatuck/Douglas area. Luckily, the house is one street over from main street in Fennville and we were able to easily walk to what became our restaurant of choice for the weekend - Salt of the Earth. We had dinner and brunch there and enjoyed every bite.
This was the perfect weekend getaway for us and we'd love to come back and stay again in the future.
The Fennville House is lovely -- perhaps even lovelier than the photos show. We came for two nights for a weekend retreat and very much enjoyed ourselves. The house is quiet and comfortable, yet convenient to a host of destinations. We walked the two blocks to downtown Fennville and had one of our best meals ever at Salt of the Earth, and we drove 15 minutes into Saugatuck and enjoyed all that is to offer there. This place is highly recommended, and Mark was a breeze to work with.
Mark made us feel very welcome to his home, even left us a six-pack of Belgium style beer in the refrigerator lol. He was very great to work with and gave us lots of recommendations for food and activities. The website's description and pictures really don't do the house justice. We spent little time out in the neighborhood but it is very calm and the neighbors seemed very nice. The young ladies that went with me loved the house, I got kudos for finding it. I visit Fennville often and hope Mark's home is available during longer stays. Will highly recommend Mark's house to friends and family looking to stay in Fennville.
