So we really liked the unique location of this place and the way Ben created simple space inside as well. Just across the tracks are a little enclave of well known eateries and bars for this neighborhood, but we tried the new Easy on I bar/bistro around the corner the other direction. It was cool, small, and had a good selection of drinks. I made one miscalculation and failed to reserve the place for two nights, so you can imagine my surprise when Ben got ahold of me the next afternoon to say, "Ummm, your stuff is still here and I have other guests coming in an hour or so." It was totally my error, I was horrified but Ben was way cool about it, I sent a colleague down to fetch my stuff real quick, and then Ben actually took time the rest of the next two hours trying to try to find me a different place knowing I had to stay another night for work and was busy so he started sending me links to help me out. Total hero. Thanks Ben, we will be back, and I will get my dates right next time.
I can't really offer a review of Ben's place as my plans changed
at the last minute and I had to cancel my stay. I will share my
experience with Ben during the reservation process. He was
always very responsive and when I had to cancel, he refunded
my reservation fee although he was under no obligation to do
so. He uses a third-party hosting service and they were helpful
as well. I hope I have the opportunity to stay at his place in
the future and know that he will be very accommodating.
Great place and awesome location. Stayed there while taking the bar exam at the Sacramento Convention Center. It was perfect for studying/de-stressing and close to many restaurants and walking distance to the convention center. Had all of the amenities and items I needed (cookware/utensils, shampoo/conditioner, coffee, towels, etc.). Really enjoyed my stay!
We enjoyed the apartment- very cool- unusual decor, including the doors! Bed was huge and comfortable. Also, you can close the door to the bedroom if you have a night owl and morning person (like us). Location was mostly great- fun neighborhood, restaurants, easy to get to sightseeing. If you don't like trains, though, it is, literally, right next to the tracks. We loved that part of it.
It needs a few tweaks to make it perfect- better cookware, parking and a few other little things, but Ben seemed quite responsive to my suggestions. If you want to be IN Sacramento, and don't need all the frills of a hotel or motel, this is a good place.
You can tell the owner takes pride in the place. The place also had a lot of little things you might forget while traveling like cue tips, and other things. The couch you see in the picture is just as cool in real life. It's kind of the first thing you notice when you come in. But you kind of have to appreciate the raw look of the place. It's not for everyone, but I would say the pictures are pretty accurate at describing the place.
You can't talk about Benjamin's place without mention just how downright cool the place is. A lot of care and creativity went into the design choices on the inside, and on the outside you have this really cool vine covered building that used to serve as an artist's studio.
Now, regarding the train: you'll see other reviewers talking about the train in here. The facts are, YES there are train tracks right next to the place, and YES the train is very loud when it comes by every few hours. With that said, the train did not wake me up at night, but I am a very deep sleeper. Also, consider the price Benjamin is charging for this place -- if the train tracks were not so close, he could EASILY be charging twice what he's charging. So long story short: you're getting a STEAL of a deal in exchange for putting up with a loud train every few hours. Not that bad of a deal, in my opinion.
Benjamin is an AWESOME host who communicates extremely well. Any time I had a question, he gave me all the info I needed quickly and concisely. Suggestions on where to park? He's on it. Suggestions on where to hang out? He's on it. Benjamin is an executive level host, and deserves a lot of praise.
Fantastic location and funky space. Loved the walkability even in the constant rain. My nephew who lives in the area said it would be his dream apartment.
Didn't meet Benjamin but was able to communicate and he was very responsive. In and out without any issues, very smooth process.
Will definitely try to stay here again next time in Sacto. if one of you reading this haven't beat me to the punch.
We really enjoyed our stay. Place was clean and very conveniently located.
Very unique spot in Midtown. Spent the weekend here and really enjoyed being in walking distance to everything. Comfy bed and the heaters kept everything really toasty. Yes the train is right outside, but with some earplugs it shouldn't be too much of a nuisance unless you are a light sleeper. While I didn't meet Benjamin, he was very responsive to any questions I had.
So we got there and realized that the place hadn't been cleaned. One quick call to Ben and not only does he get a cleaner over there ASAP, but he only offers to refund our cleaning fee and checks in twice to make sure the rest of the weekend went well. Lovely apartment and great host.
Did not have a chance to meet Ben during his stay, but communication quick and very easy. Ben took very good care of my place during his stay and I couldn't even tell that he had even been there. Definitely can recommend Ben to any other Airbnb hosts.
Very nice and respectful guest. He was very good with communications and friendly in person. Very respectful of the apartment and the house rules. I would recommend and welcome back!
It was a pleasure to serve Mr. IIfeld. We hope he will call upon us again.
Nice guy and good guest to host. Welcome back anytime!
Benjamin was an excellent guest and was very polite. He brought over some amazing coffee which made my day and the friends I shared it with! I'm glad he and his friend came to Austin and got to experience SXSW!
I've known Ben for about a year, and he's a great person to explore a city with. If you want someone that knows Sac inside and out, he's your guy.
Ben is married to one of my closest college friends and is an upstanding individual. We've connected on many travel excursions and can wholeheartedly recommend him as a host. His attention to details and personal touch would make your stay wonderful. Visit Sacramento and join Ben for a great experience!
