I'm from the village originally although I lived away for a number of years. The house is a conversion of the farm buildings opposite the farmhouse where I used to live. I work in the local library and occasionally at the museum.
Great place for a weekend away. Everything you need in the kitchen and sitting room, with lots of information on the area available as well. Wood stove is all set up for easy use, but the central heating is plenty for those that don't want to bother. Recommend a day hike from the back door, heading though Millers Dale and along the river to the mills, Monsal head (Stable Inn does a nice pub lunch), down through the valley south and back west to Taddington.
We had a gorgeous stay in this beautiful little cosy cottage. The village is ideally placed for exploring the peaks and the cottage itself has everything we needed for us and our 4 month old baby. The kitchen's well equipped and the bed's very comfy! The only thing we would say is the wifi didn't work for us but the village has reception so it wasn't a problem. Judith was lovely and thankfully didn't mind the prospect of a new baby moving in next door for a few days!
Loved the cottage, the beautiful walks nearby and would definitely return. Thanks for a great stay.
Amazing place to stay, it had everything that we could have wanted and it was very clean and tidy. Judith was helpful and was very accommodating with arrival and departure times. This is a great place to stay regardless of the weather. I can’t recommend it enough.
We had a lovely stay in Judith's cosy cottage. It's equidistant between Bakewell & Buxton so lots of good walks, incredibly quiet & peaceful & a lovely little cottage. We especially loved the wood burner! I highly recommend Judith's cottage for a quiet break away.
We had a lovely stay at Ash Tree Barn. Judith was there to give us the keys even through we arrived a little late on Friday night. She showed us around the place, gave us some useful info and left us to it.
The barn itself has everything you could need and the coal fire was very welcome. Judith has loads of books about walking in the Peak District and a couple of maps too, so it's really easy to plan some walks when you arrive.
We'd certainly stay here again!
We arrived at the cottage and were immediately charmed- it was exactly what we had wanted. A little dream escape in a village which feels like it is in the middle of the countryside.
The walks and the villages around were a treat to explore- Taddington is a good base to explore the local area and is close to Buxton and Bakewell. Really recommend the Lathkill Dale walk in Monyash which is not so far away.
We had a great une both inside of and outside of the cottage. On a rainy day we took great pleasure in lighting up a fire, reading, painting and watching films.
We recommend Judith's little cottage and would love to return one day in the near future.
We had a great weekend stay at Judith's cottage. The location is ideal for visiting Chatsworth, Buxton and Bakewell.
The cottage is well thought out, has everything you need and is very cosy. We look forward to revisiting in the New Year.
.Ideal for a quiet get away, more places to explore than we had time for.
The locals are very friendly and welcoming, with what seemed like a nice local community within the nearby oub, which offers some home cooked food.
Judith was a great host who looked after all our needs, one thing i will say is there is no WIFI, it works in one small corner of the apartment so internet is not a strong point,
otherwise very good!
We had a lovely stay at Ash Tree Barn. It is a beautiful cottage tucked away in a lovely peaceful village...just the ticket if you want to escape life for a few days! We would definitely recommend visiting. Thanks Judith! :)
If you like the idea of waking up in a cute stone cottage in a tiny village in the middle of the Derbyshire dales, then Judith's place is for you. Its even better than the photos! It has a great sized lounge, a separate kitchen/dining room, then upstairs a bedroom, with ensuite bathroom adjacent. Its all centrally heated, so you don't need to crank up the fire if you don't want to. We took a walk across the fields at the back of the cottage and ended up in Miller's Dale, which even has a pub, ready for a recovery drink. There are plenty of other places to walk as well. Since the village of Taddington is midway between Buxton and Bakewell, its only a few minutes to shopping whichever way you go.
Judith was helpful with getting us set up and she only lives next door, if you need anything else. Also, there is even a pub about two minutes down the road if you can't be bothered to cook. All in all, a fantastic place to get away from it all in the dales. We would return again anytime.
