A Californian living in Paris with my gorgeous French husband and 1 year old daughter..
Paris has always been special for us! But this was our first trip ANYWHERE with our 1 and 3 year old boys! It was such a good feeling to walk straight into a home that actually FELT like home! The boys were so chuffed to see the toys and books around the apartment, that they didnt have a chance to miss any of their own! The bright sunny lounge and dining area looks straight out onto a typical Parisien street! Just round the corner you have a boulangerie for croissants to go with your morning Nespresso, you can see the supermarket from the bathroom window and there are loads of shops withing walking distance. The apartment is beautiful as well as clean. Really child friendly with cot and high chair for our little one. Character as well as function and really practical for a family of 4. Mariel was a great host and always quick to respond! We didnt give them much notice either! Overall, a beautiful apartment in a really good location. Fantastic hosts and definitely our first choice for accomodation on our next visit to Paris! Thank you Mariel!
We loved staying in Mariel's place.Lovely ,roomy apartment in a fabulous neighbourhood. We felt right at home.Close to Le Marche des Enfants Rouges and Merci..Great place to stay for a family. We booked this place last minute, and Mariel was a great communicator and very flexible which made everything very stressfree for us.This was a great, typical Paris experience and we highly recommend it.Thanks Mariel!
Short Version: This is a beautiful spacious, apartment, with all the conveniences that one has at home. The location is just outside the very centre of Paris which means it has supermarkets and the more reasonably priced shops and restaurants of the Marais right outside.
Long Version: Paris is a beautiful, ancient city, which means that accommodation is expensive and is limited by size or access. We wanted a family holiday with our child and hotels were ruled out due to the cost of two rooms or a suite. AirBnB has lots of apartments which we hoped would suit us, but listings we checked were not family friendly (no lifts, no cots, no extra bedroom). When we found this listing we could not believe our luck and booked it straight away. It has 3 proper bedrooms (one set up for a young child), a fully fitted kitchen and a beautiful living room in between. A (very) small lift takes the load of moving luggage and shopping up to the 3rd floor. The Carrefour supermarket nearby ensured we had all the food we wanted (breakfast, picnics and supper) which allowed us spend our money on treats of nice restaurants. Mariel was a great host and provided us with all we needed from the start (linen on beds, towels in bathroom, some food in fridge and guidebooks).
We used the Metro outside to get to our sightseeing and then walked home, enjoying the nightlife of the districts. Gare du Nord station is a few, direct, stops away on line 5, allowing quick access to Eurostar trains and the RER to Charles de Gaulle airport.
In the end, we were able to enjoy Paris not as tourists but just like the residents who live there.
As two of our best friends in Paris, Mariel and Thibaut are some of the most responsible, clean and thoughtful people we know. Their apartment is always in good repair and clean, and just feels so homey. The neighborhood is INCREDIBLE, all the "must go to" restaurant spots for Parisian locals are cropping up within walking distance of their home -- make sure you get some references from them! They have a huge grocery store behind their house (this is so unusual), two metros within five minutes' walk, and every other convenience is at their fingertips -- I have said again and again I think this is the most liveable neighborhood in Paris. All necessary amenities are in the home that you might wish for and the beds are comfy too...I speak from experience as we lived with them for a week once while our apartment was being readied!
Mariel is one of my dearest friends. She is an incredibly kind, thoughtful and brilliant woman, who has a deep empathy for others. We have known each other for several years and are fellow compatriots from California living in Paris. Her apartment is absolutely fantastic, an amazing gem in the city and she is beyond a wonderful mother and very lovely and loyal friend.
