I felt very comfortable from the first moment I arrived ! I made long lasting friendships at phils home , played with chickens and had movie nights... My stay has been wonderful I will miss it here for sure.
Phillip was very nice. The house was very quiet and the room very clean. Thanks,Phillip for your hospitality! Scarp
I stayed in Phil's home for one week and had a great experience. The home is within walking distance to public transit and local shops and very cozy. Phil, thanks for another great airbnb experience!
I spent a month with Philip while doing a rotation at UCDMC. The house was conveniently located next to BUS80 so it was only a 10-20 minute drive to the hospital depending on traffic. It's also right next to Trader Joes and a few restaurants. The room I was staying in was clean and quiet. There were three other male guests and Philip all staying at the house while I was there. I never felt uncomfortable or unsafe and everyone was very friendly and welcoming. Overall it was a nice experience!
Phil is a nice man. He helped us many times in the daily life.
This was my first airbnb experience, and it was just what I was looking for. At Phil's GaustHaus you aren't a guest, you are a roommate. The vibe is urban farm, with chickens roaming the backyard and rainwater collected for use in the garden. The decor is more "Mother Earth News" than "Better Home and Gardens", and that's my style, so I felt right at home.
The host wasn't able to be there when I arrived so he contacted his son to come and give me an orientation. One of his housemates was already at the house when I arrived and he showed me around. The room looked far less classy than the picture with an old brown bedspread and old cotton blanket folded on top of the bed with pulled threads and holes. However, the room was large and comfortable with a desk, large dresser, large chair and large closet. Plenty of space. The bathroom was shared, there were locks for the door to my room for privacy. It felt a bit like being a dormitory parent with about 5-6 young men in their 20's-30's hanging out. The owner rents rooms to graduate students and nurses so they congregate around the TV downstairs. All of them were friendly and I enjoyed talking with them. There is a full kitchen with privileges. The backyard has some seating but it is mostly dirt with some huge bamboo. There are chickens that lay eggs and organic tomatoes that you are welcome to . The yard has no landscaping. A few plants and tomatoes in pots surrounded by dirt and dried up bamboo leaves that look like hay. The neighborhood is mainly middle class smaller homes close to Watt Ave (3 short blocks) which is more commercial and lower class.
Not for me.
Phillip was a great host , very easy communication . I love the location close to everywhere . Nice room clean . I totally recommend Phillip 100 % .
My husband and I were in need of a place to stay for a week. We're a quiet, private couple. We typically have busy schedules so we leave in the morning and come back late. For us, an excellent place to stay is somewhere we can use as a home base to relax after a long day. The perfect host for us is someone that is friendly, puts us at ease, and respects our privacy. We're happy to say that Phil met all our expectations!
It can be hard entering a stranger's house but Phil made us feel right at home. Phil is such a kind, caring man and you can tell right away that cares about his family and his guests. Although we didn't have a lot of interaction with him, he was very easy to talk to. He made it clear that if we needed anything we just had to ask. He also offered helpful advice on the surrounding area.
He was very generous with his kitchen and provided other amenities that added to our comfort such as bath robes (which is really nice since the guest bathroom isn't connected to the guest bedroom). He actually had many amenities we didn't even get to use (such as the chicken eggs, bicycles, etc) because we had our own busy schedules to attend to.
The atmosphere at Phil's home is homey and comfortable. The decor and style is mainly masculine, which is rather refreshing after staying in other homes that are distinctly feminine. The bedroom we stayed in was very nice as it had a Queen sized bed, air conditioning box, sofa chair, large empty closet, dresser, tv & DVD player, and a desk. We had everything we needed and plenty of space for two.
We highly recommend staying with Phil. He will welcome you with respect and kindness, as he did with us.
