Pyramid Farm is located at the end of an unsealed road. It is an old home with beautiful lead light windows. Donald met us when we arrived and showed us to our room. The room had a queen bed and a single. The bed was very comfortable. The house has a shared bathroom and shared toilet. Donald is very friendly and happy to have a chat and share his knowledge of New Zealand - and life in general. He has a wonderful dog, Dog, who is happy to be patted and fussed over. We has an enjoyable time at Pyramid Farm.
Our stay with Donald was a wonderful and unique stay that we would not have wanted to miss. As we turned right under the sign that said Pyramid Farm, Farmstay "Backpackers" and arrived at the house we were greeted warmly by "Dog" followed by Donald. It was the closest to a backpackers stay that we have ever had, but the platform bed was comfortable and Donald's house filled with fascinating and eclectic books as well as art and artifacts that were terrific.
At first Donald seemed reserved, but over his lovely breakfast with his sumptuous home made honey he opened up and we had great conversations. If you are lucky enough to stay at his home be sure to ask him how he managed to move his house, with its beautiful leaded glass windows that was build for the mayor of Charleston, to its present location and ask him as well about the country for which his house serves as a consultate.
On the road between Franz Joseph and Able Tasman and a visit to pancake rocks, this is perfect place to stop. Yes, as Cat Steven's song said, it was "miles from no where," as was the Cafe nearby at which we had dinner, but it was just where it should be. It it was a marvelous adventure and experience; we loved it.
Hello Carol , Thank you , It really was a great pleasure to host you here .
Fantastic stay with Donald. Made to feel really welcome and couldn't be happier. We even saw the glow worms which were pretty amazing! Thank you!!
Thank you both it was really nice to meet you
Pyramid farm was a perfect overnight stop for us on our journey up the West Coast. Donald was very accommodating to our vague planned arrival time, friendly, overall a great host. He showed us around his place, including the glow worm grotto, and told us a lot about the local area. We definitely recommend the location and Donald as a host!
Loved meeting you both , Have a great trip
Our stay at Donald's farm was lovely. He has a very friendly dog called dog that lives with him. The farm is peaceful, quiet and surrounded by nature. We could use the kitchen and the bathroom, as well as the wifi. At night, Don even showed us and the other staying couple some glowworms, which was amazing. He served us breakfast including his selfmade honey!
Thank you I am happy you enjoyed your stay here
Unique accommodation. Friendly, welcoming and interesting. Great conversations with Donald. Even went to see the gloworms! Thank you!
Thank you ,
He was a gracious host, kind and personable without being invasive. Donald had quite an intriguing home with lots of character to enjoy. The beautiful farm setting added to the atmosphere, and the location was quiet and peaceful. The beds were comfortable, and we were greeted in the morning with a fantastic breakfast.
Thank you both , It was a pleasure to meet you
Our experience at Donald's was unique and really good. We enjoyed sharing tea time and discussions with other guests and our host. The place is rustic but clean and very comfortable. The dog, named "the dog", is very quiet.
The place is isolated, in the middle of the nature so it's important to buy your food before or book a restaurant for dinner at Westport (20 km) if you want eat out.
The breakfast was pretty good and we had the opportunity to taste Donald's home made honey.
At night time we enjoyed a walk with Donald who showed us the glow worms.
Thank you , It was a pleasure to meet you
Lovely couple and I was glad I could help . Welcome in my home anytime
