Travis was a helpful and responsive host, always answering e-mails within 24 - 36 hours. He met us at 9:30 pm, showed us to the apartment, and ensured the internet was working before he left that evening. He also answered several of our questions about where to find certain items in a timely and effective manner.
The apartment itself was clean and organized when we arrived. The kitchen had an ample supply of dish soap, sugar, and salt while the bathrooms both had soap and fresh towels. Every week or so, the building caretaker brought by fresh sheets, towels, extra toilet paper, and soap at no cost. She'll also collected the dirty sheets and towels and took them away as well as changed the propane bottle when necessary. The apartment is located on the north side of Cuenca, away from the bustle of the city center. A beautiful park that overlooks the city is less than two blocks away, perfect for families with kids. A large open-air market is four blocks to the south where you can find fresh fruit, vegetables, milk, cheese, eggs, meat, and basic necessities. Within a 2 block radius, there are several bakeries and tiendas, which also sell basic necessities and some fruits/vegetables. There is some street noise (honking propane trucks and school buses in the morning) and the apartment is also located directly across the street from a fabrication company of sorts, which can at times, can add a little bit of noise. However, none of these are too disturbing or continuous. The tradeoff for the relative quiet of the location is that it is a solid 15 - 20 minute walk from the Cathedral and Parque Calderon. However, it's located near an intersection that almost every taxi driver we encountered knew how to get to. For about a $1.30, depending on traffic, you can be right in the city center. The kitchen is fairly well stocked with cooking supplies and pots/pans, but there are no baking sheets, roasting pans with lids, or measuring cups, so baking can be a bit difficult. The complex is very secure, with two exterior doors/gates that require keys to enter before you even get to the apartment door. The kitchen and shower always had enough hot water and the tap water is some of the best we've ever tasted. There is no washer or dryer, but outside on the porch, there is a nice wash table with running water to it as well as ample clothes line room for drying clothes. If this isn't for you, a laundry mat is 2-3 blocks east. A wash will cost $2 and a dry about $1.
There are two small dogs right next door and one level below, which at times began barking at 5:30 am. The WiFi signal in the dining and living room areas is weak at times while the signal is always strong in the back bedrooms.
This apartment is nicely suited for families and we will retun again.
Great apartment, very big and spacious room, great kitchen and area. Very clean. Extremely comfortable bed. I sincerely recommend.
The apartament was exactly as described and the pictures were accurate. Having internet and sattelite TV was a bonus. The Kitchen had everything I needed. The location was in a quiet area about a 10 min walk from the center. Everything went smooth with getting the Keys from Travis and he even offered to show me around the area to see where stores were located. Would defiantly recommend and will stay there again on my next trip to Cuenca. My only complaint was that I had to leave when my vacation was over.
We were most pleased with the rental as well as our host Travis.
Travis was one of the most helpful hosts one could imagine. He was attentive to our needs in a prompt and most friendly way. He went out of his way to help us with some legal matters and was a wealth of information about our neighborhood as well as Cuenca in general.
The bedroom is huge and the kitchen cheerful, as advertised. Can't wait to return to Travis' sweet apartment.
Thanks for being so diplomatic, you are a scholar and a gentleman
Travis was always helpful and available when I needed something or needed to ask a question about the apt. or about Cuenca. He provided a lot of useful information for me during my stay.
The apt. was airy with lots of light. The neighborhood appeared to be safe and clean for the most part. It did seem to be a little noisy at times but that is part of the culture.
This my/our third stay at this apartment, Travis has been always helpful and constantly has offered valuable insights into life in Cuenca and Ecuador. Zulma and her family have always had the apartment spotless when we arrive. We feel safe and secure in this location; there is very little noise at night and there are shops nearby to buy any essentials.
Most recently Travis helped us plan and execute a bus trip out of town that was a wonderful experience.
Very diplomatic you are.
Travis and Zulma were were very pleasant and supplied all that I needed. The apartment was much nicer than even displayed in the profile. The views from the bedroom are great and the kitchen full of light. The neighborhood is mostly residential, so pretty quiet, but only about 10-15 minutes to the center of town. I felt very comfortable here and the month went by very quickly.
Travis was a good host. We enjoyed our stay at the apartment .
We enjoyed staying at this conveniently located apartment near the center of Cuenca. Travis promptly met us and took us to the apartment around the corner. The apartment was clean and provided all the necessary kitchen and bathroom items. Travis gave us information about the area and where to locate markets and a laundry. He was available by phone and email when we had additional questions.
