English Teacher and real Estate
We were very surprised by the amount of large space this apt had...the pics may make it seem small but it is more than adequate. Beautiful natural light, comfy bed, nice kitchen. One little thing that wasn't a big deal for us was that the shower was a little slow draining due to the flat-level of the floor. However, we were provided soap & towels which made packing convenient. We actually did not meet Travis, but the actual owner who lives next door. It seems that he posts and promotes the apt for her, but she owns it. For sure worth it, such a good deal!
We loved our stay in Cuenca...
The apartment was spacious and comfortable....minor issues where corrected promptly and Travis was a great source of local knowledge and very helpful
We definitely recommend the place

This apartment was perfect! Great location, close to everything but far enough away that it was quiet at night. It was very clean and comfortable and Travis was very helpful. Definitely recommended!!!
Great place at a great rate within easy walking distance (15-20 minutes) to the central bus station and to the downtown core. We especially loved the light kitchen and dining area that is separate from the bedroom/living room. The owner lives next door and was always very concerned about our well-being. We had some communication difficulties with the host (the only reason for the 4 star rating instead of 5 stars) but at the end, everything worked out just fine.
Travis was a great host. He got us situated when we arrived, gave an overview of the area and then checked in occasionally during our 4 week stay to make sure we had all we needed.
The apartment was clean, spacious and airy, very modern and well equipped. Located on the fringe of Old Town Cuenca, we could (and did) walk almost everywhere in the historic district. Four blocks to a wonderful fruit/vegetable market along with nearby bakeries made provisioning easy and pleasurable.
The landlord stopped by as well and we had a delightful conversation; she was warm, gracious and welcoming.
All in all we had a wonderful time and are truly appreciative of Travis' help and great personality. We are considering a return trip next year.
We found Travis to be extremely accommodative, especially after a delayed arrival. We called to let him know of our delay and he had no problem meeting us outside the apartment at 10:30pm. He helped us with our luggage and gave us the quick overview of the apartment and neighborhood. The apartment is much more spacious than the pictures show and exceeded our expectations. The kitchen was huge and well equipped. The bedroom had ample closet space and was spacious as well. The wifi was great by Ecuador standards. The on demand hot water heater gave non stop hot water. The location is a fun 15-20 minute walk to the best parts of Cuenca. The apartment is extremely safe with a high wall and electric fence and 3 deadbolt doors between the street and the apartment. The only small complaint is that the metal fabrication/concrete company across the street starts work early with some banging and the gas man beeps his horn every morning around 7am. However, all of Cuenca is a busy town in the morning and honking/car alarms are impossible to avoid. We would recommend this apartment to anyone visiting Cuenca. Thanks Travis and Zulma for a wonderful stay.
Response from Travis:
Thankyou for the review, the gas delivery happens absolutely everywhere about the city, and that is how they let you know they are available for delivery, honking their horns, it is South America.
Travis is kind, quirky, thorough, and hospitable. His place is tastefully decorated, spotless, and comfortable. He showed us around to a few local places to buy food and drinks. I wouldn't hesitate to stay at his apartment again when I visit Cuenca. Thank you, Travis!
This was my second time staying at this location. Great apartment and great hosts! Thanks for everything!
We had a wonderful stay at this cute little apartment. Everything we needed was provided! Close enough to walk to El Centro, the location was great. Definitely recommend the apartment and working with Travis.
We had a mixed experience at this apartment. It is a goof price, although you have to take into account that the cost of renting in Cuzco is very low - like a furnished apt. for $350 a month or so. But still, the price was good for us. It was difficult to communicate with the host as it took multiple emails to hear back from him. Initially, we had wanted the one bedroom apt. but it was not available, so I asked for 2 beds in the studio (which I was told yes). When we got there, there was only one bed, and the owner had to scramble to get us another. The owner was initially friendly with beautiful flowers on arrival and she showed us where the market was and gave us a map. She said she would bring us fresh sheets and towels a week into our stay and she did not. We bundled ours up and left them for her to exchange one morning and by afternoon phoned, but still no sheets or towels. We went a night without any because she did not bring them when she said she would. No apologies either. It felt like we were a nuisance when we asked for anything. We also wanted to meet Travis and find out about living in Cuenca but he clearly was not interested in helping (although initially wrote that he would meet with us). The best thing is that you have your own kitchen to cook, which was really helpful. The apartment also is within walking distance to the main square - about 20 min which is great. The apartment has west facing windows in the ceiling of the kitchen which make it unbearably hot during sunny afternoons. Opening the screen-less windows in kitchen or bedroom leads to flies and bees entering. Bathroom also smelled like sewer at times. Also, we were told that if that bigger apt. opened up we would be informed but the people left a week into our stay and the owner did not let us know. So, a mixed bag.
