We are Henk and Carolien from the Netherlands ans came in 2007 to Costa Rica.
In that year we build our cabins and restaurant and made our dream come true.
Henk and Carolien have a beautiful space in Sarapiqui. Although my mother and I were not there for a long time, we enjoyed our stay immensely. Especially bird watching during breakfast. I would highly suggest staying at this magical B&B.
The property is absolutely lovely and well kept. We loved watching the bird over breakfast in the morning and listening to the sounds of the jungle. Henk & Carolien are fabulous hosts and take great care to ensure their guests are comfortable. It's a bit difficult to find especially at night so make sure you ask for directions.
Like the others who left a review, we stopped here only one night while driving between Puerto Viejo and Arenal. What an amazing property! Half is beautifully manicured gardens and the other is wild jungle with many paths. There are only a couple rooms on the island so we had a lot of privacy. We stayed in the family cabin and it was very nice and clean with a small kitchenette - useful as it's a bit of a drive to the nearest town with a lot of food options. Something I really liked was all appliances were kept unplugged until needed to conserve energy. You could tell Henk and Carolien really respected the environment.
We saw many monkeys, song birds and interesting plants and at night Carolien lent us some flashlights and we saw kinkajous, owls and a sloth from about 4 feet away!
Although we only stayed a night it looked like there were many interesting excursions - many appearing to be off the beaten path (awesome!) and I easily could have spent a couple days.
It's really worth coming here to see the property. It's extremely unique and I didn't see a higher concentration of birds and animals anywhere else in Costa Rica.
We picked this place as a stopover between two areas (Cahuita & Tortuguero) where we were planning on spending more time. However, once we got here we wished we could stay for more than one night. The rooms were wonderfully decorated, and the grounds were a combination of natural habitat and beautifully decorated gardens. We saw a variety of colorful songbirds, and the resident family of Spectacled Owls. There was also a troop of Howler Monkeys close enough to hear in the morning. Our only regret was that we did not have more time to enjoy the island. The hosts were also great.
